Q hair and beauty shows their support for dresses and dreams

Q Hair and Beauty  have expressed their support for Dresses and Dreams, a charity scheme that provides prom dresses and shows for less-fortunate students.

Megan Jaclyn Smith, 21, is a Chichester student and founder of the pioneering charity scheme. She is currently undertaking a degree in social work at the University of Portsmouth.

“Prom is such a big thing in teenage culture. I want to make sure that every single girl, no matter their background, feels empowered and beautiful on their special night,” shares Megan.

Teenage girls in either residential children’s homes or foster care do not receive funding from the local authority for prom dresses, transport or hair and make-up. Because of that, Q Hair and Beauty has joined forces with Dresses and Dreams. The goal behind the organisation is to give girls in care the opportunity to enjoy prom night. The hair salon will be offering to do youngsters’ hair and make-up free of charge.

Dawn Lawrence Grant, managing director of Q Hair and Beauty, comments on the collaboration: “It is a very exciting project and we will be there to support Dresses and Dreams for the long term.”

Dawn shares how inspired he was by Megan’s creative idea to help provide dresses and shoes from prom. He believes re-using dresses will not only help and bring somebody smile but will only create less waste in this rather expensive business.

Also, the hair salon is considering the possibility of offering workshops in order for the girls to learn as well. Megan shares her gratefulness for the support from Q Hair and Beauty, especially as it looks to the long term and could help many more girls in the future.
