Celebrity Lockdown Hair Transformations You Might Have Missed
While salons remained closed through the Coronavirus lockdown celebrities couldn’t keep their hands off their hair. Here are some celebrities who tried out at-home transformations.
Creativity with colour
Singer Dua Lipa experimented with colour a few times during lockdown, making the most of her top layer of blonde hair. Initially she went with a light pink and then embraced a peach tone. Her final incarnation was this fiery red, a complimentary contrast to her natural dark colour.
With dark, grown out roots from her usual blonde, Hayley’s multicoloured creation distracted the eye until her touch up. She gave herself chunky sections of purple, green and pink creative colour with a result reminiscent of candy. Her sectioning created a gradient effect when the singer pulled her hair back in french braids.

Excited for this @maxrouxla collab dropping soon, benefiting @savetherhinonamibia and the team working hard keeping our rhinos safe! Namibia is already on a 21 day lockdown, as the whole world is affected by Covid-19 and yet our trackers are staying active but safe in the field. Praying for them, their families, entire SRT team and the whole Motherland! We are all in this together. From our hearts, thank you and stay safe! 🙏🏽🦏🇳🇦🌎
Model Behati Levine’s lockdown posts included her flaunting pastel hair during a photoshoot in her garden. Her base blonde colour allowed her to effectively adopt pinks and purples to create a multi tonal look which made use of the dimension created by her natural wavy texture.
During lockdown, Ruby Rose experimented with her hair multiple times including a buzz cut, leaving a single braid on the side of her head. Following this, Ruby lightened and dyed her hair with a half and half vibrant pink and blue colour. As restrictions have eased she’s continued to experiment with various creative cuts colour techniques.
Khloe Kardashian’s birthday party saw Kim reveal an unexpected cherry red hair colour that opposed her usual choice of more natural shades. The dark roots gave the colour a more natural appearance. Her new look was styled with sleek texture and noughties tendrils on multiple occasions. Check out our article for a deeper dive into this colour change.
Emily surprised everyone when she debuted a complete transformation which took her hair from rich chocolate brown to golden blonde. Her dark roots allow the colour to appear more natural, tie in her dark features and allow her hair to grow out a tad before her next visit to the salon.
Kelvin’s new look was somewhat an acquired taste. He lightened the hair on his head creating a blonde that contrasts his naturally dark colour in his beard. As it begins to grow out, his hair has become very nostalgic, resembling David Beckham’s 2002 frosted tips.
Bella Hadid’s usual look was initially transformed after the model experimented by cutting a noughties inspired piecey fringe. Her dark locks dark then became a thing of the past when she swapped the colour out for strawberry blonde with a subtle wave and highlights.
Lana del Rey took matters into her own hands when she was forced to go without her usual glam team. As a solution she abandoned her usual dark brown to adopt a blonde colour and lightened her roots at home.
To cut or not to cut
Instead of letting his usual suave haircut grow out, Joe Jonas went back to a style he had tried in the past and shaved his hair into a buzz cut. The all over low crop allows for easy maintenance and gives Joe a more mature look.
Dermot ditched his usual crop length and allowed his hair to grow out during lockdown. While his hair kept a similar shape, the longer length and deep side parting revealed his natural wavy texture, giving him a more youthful look and adding an element of boyish charm.
Embracing the natural
Lockdown was all about learning new things and Tracee Ellis Ross tackled this through hair. She made a successful attempt at the protective style of bantu knots as inspired by hair stylist @naivashaintl. The star declared that this style is now one of her favourites.
Jhene Aiko’s signature hairstyle of long box braids was pushed aside. The singer has had a true transformation, swapping out the protective styles to embrace her natural texture of defined ringlet curls. Her current bob length showed versatility in volume and styles across a range of Instagram posts and stories.
In contrast to many of the other celebs on this list, Lily Allen decided to forgo the temptation of at home dyes and instead, share her natural grey hair with the world during the lockdown, showing off her silver roots and strands in a barefaced post.
No doubt that these celebrity looks will inspire a new lease of creativity in your clients’ requests and upcoming trends.
