Hair salon group Blue Tit have always had sustainability at the heart of their ethos, and this has now been made official with the company being awarded a BCorp certificate.

Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and proposal, redefining success in business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

The Bcorp certification is tested on a benchmark of key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. Blue Tit consider everything from emissions, products (they stock Oway) to water waste and community outreach to ensure their salons are as kind to the planet and people as possible.

“We are delighted to welcome Blue Tit to the B Corp community,” says Kate Sandle, director of programmes and engagement of B Lab UK. “This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates, who believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Blue Tit are going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.”

Since the first salon’s inception Blue Tit has been committed to positive impact for their employees, clients, community and the environment. The group offset 110% of its yearly carbon emissions in 2019, uses non-toxic Oway products from recyclable amber glass bottles reducing over 8000 plastic bottles a year from landfill and neary 2000 bottles from retail and installed Oway refill stations in all salons.

The salon group also reduce 1,350,000 litres of water wastage a year using EcoHeads, use biodegradable hair towels, recycle over 95% of its waste and invests in the development and wellbeing of its team.

“Hairdressing salons are classified as high environmental and social impact businesses,” say Perry Patraszewski, director, Blue Tit London. “We at Blue Tit have always been standing guard to protect the sacred earth and its inhabitants and continually reducing the impact through carefully selected suppliers with the highest standards and ethical ethos as a guide to conducting business and ensuring our staff and clients are treated with dignity and respect.”

Perry continues, “ In a major way obtaining a B Corp certificate will put a stamp of approval by a third-party accredited organisation that Blue Tit is fulfilling its promise and the mission. We are very proud to have achieved this certification.
