Andrew smith reveals the boxie as 2023 hair trend 2023 is here and there’s one haircut trend I think will be huge as we head into the New Year – The Boxie. This cut incorporates two haircuts, the bob and the pixie, to create a super cool, edgy and textured style. I have already started to notice clients taking steps towards this cut in the salon and across the industry we have recently seen a lot of cuts being combined to create more contemporary and tailored look for clients. When it comes to creating The Boxie cut in the salon for clients, the key is that the hair has the length of the bob at the ends, but on top the hair is layered and textured, resembling that of a pixie. The bob should always be cut just above the chin to allow facial features, including the cheekbones, to really pop and to create the most beautiful shape. You can also discuss with your clients adding in a fringe and tailoring this to their face shape. A side skimming fringe works perfectly alongside the pixie cut, is flattering for most face shapes and can give the look a more youthful appearance. This cut is great for clients who want a haircut that is easy to style. Simply spraying some texture spray or using a mattifying paste or pomade can give the hair instant definition and added volume and texture with no styling tools having to be used. However, although styling for the cut can be low maintenance, clients should visit the salon regularly (around every eight weeks) to ensure the length of the hair and the bob looks its best, blunt and fresh. I love to team this haircut with subtle highlights or colour pieces throughout the hair to add further movement and dimension and to really show off the structure of the cut and all of those sexy layers. The cut also looks beautiful with some colour through the ends, enhancing the bluntness of the bob and giving the style an even further unique and trendy finish.
