The first Monday of May is undeniably the most stylish day of the year as the most notable people in the entertainment and fashion industries hit the red carpet for the Met Gala is held at the Metropolitan Museum of the Arts, New York. And while yes everyone is excited about the fashion, hairstylists and hair enthusiasts alike were more interested in the hair at the Met Gala 2019.

The theme for this year was ‘camp’, a fun and frivolous theme that allowed stylists to push the boundaries for their clients. Here were some of the best looks…

Lily Collins

“Lily always pulls it out of the bag for the Gala and this year was no different. They say the higher the hair the closer to God and this bouffant is truly heavenly.”

Picked by Patrick Marrow, Crazy Color ambassador

“Kylie Jenner served hair envy as always at the 2019 Met Gala as she showcased a stunning, lavender look that complimented her dress perfectly. This soft shade of purple is bang on trend and something you are likely to find clients requesting more over the summer months.”

Lucy Boynton

“Like a camp Coachella fairy, Lucy Boynton floated down the millennial pink carpet with wavy pastel blue hair and floral headpiece. Paired with her sequinned and feathered Prada gown her look ticked all the ethereal beauty boxes – relaxed waves, tick! centre parting, tick! and pastel hues, double tick!”

Kim Kardashian West

Picked by Simon Hill owner of Sesh Hairdressing

“Kim K blended that iconic wet look that we know and love with more glamorous retro waves to create a special blend of these two looks.”

Lupita Nyong’o

“Lupita tapped into the spring/summer 2019 accessories trend by placing gold Afro picks throughout her hair for a real statement look!”

Hailey Baldwin

Picked by Suzie McGill owner of Rainbow Room International Uddingston Salon

“Hailey Bieber’s hair at this year’s MET Gala was simply perfect! Her high pony was worn sleek, with not a hair out of place, and flicked at the ends to provide the look with some drama.”

Zendaya

Zendaya’s princess inspired look at this year’s Met Gala truly had us in awe! To fit with her big blue Cinderella like dress, she sported an elegant French roll hairstyle, which was dyed blonde to fit with her character and finished with a blue silk headband to complete the look.

Darren Criss

Picked by Jim Shaw owner of Essensuals and Essensualsmen

“Darren Criss’ look at this years Met Gala was the epitome of cool. He wore his hair short at the sides and embraced his curls, wearing them over his forehead. Natural hairstyles and embracing your curls and waves in 2019 is super on trend and I love enhancing these looks by adding more texture to the hair using texturising sprays and salt sprays.”
