Carolyn newman on life as an ambassador
Carolyn Newman has been newly announced as Insight’s newest ambassador. We chatted humble beginnings, responsibilities and hopes for the future.

What was your journey into the industry?

I really wanted to be a journalist when I grew up in Australia, but we only had one local newspaper, so the chance of getting experience was small. My mother thought I would be good at hairdressing so I put it as my second choice. I got a placement in a big salon in town through school and as soon as I walked in, I knew it was where I was going to be forever. I went straight out and got a part-time job at my local salon and they then offered me a four-year apprenticeship.

What does it mean to you to be an ambassador for Insight?

I have been working with the products for a few months now and love the performance of the range. I love Insight’s ethos and their core sustainability values and really think I can bring my skills, expertise and knowledge to developing the brand further in the UK. I am not just a colour expert – I can cut and style too – so will be working with the entire range.

What responsibility do you believe ambassadors have?

You need to believe in the brand and love how the products deliver in performance. Show passion, flexibility and be adaptable; when you become an ambassador, there are already teams in place, sales, marketing and education, so you need to work alongside these teams and respect their knowledge about the brand. I am very excited to not only work with them but the Insight salons also.

What is inspiring you at the moment?

Sustainable technology in beauty and fashion. Part of this means I am looking at what I can do in a salon space and how I work to be better at protecting our planet.

What’s next for you and your career?

I am really looking forward to developing my new ambassador role with Insight, and I am also very busy with my colour and education consultancy, where I am creating bespoke education for salons and freelancers. Last year, I completed a writing diploma in lifestyle and fashion, so I am very excited to use my new skills too.
