The return of the undercut

The return of the undercut

HJI Hearts logo.bmpRihanna red hair undercutThe undercut has been bubbling under as a micro trend for the past couple of seasons, but as more and more celebs get on board with the punky cut, it's becoming practically mainstream.

The undisputed queen of the undercut is punk model Alice Dellal, who HJi has admired in the past for the cutting edge style (literally!). Still rocking the look, Alice truly owns the trend with her leathers and ripped croptop.

But the look isn't just for punks - last year Girls Aloud fashionista Sarah Harding opted for a girly take on the undercut. This season, its migrated to the mainstream, with every pop starlet under the sun reaching for the razor. Rihanna and Sugababe Amelle have both been buzzed this summer, and look seriously fashion forward for it.

Kevin Kahan of Kevin Kahan salon, Bangor says, "I've been championing the undercut for years because of the versatility it gives the wearer. It's not for the faint-hearted but offers those bold enough a radical hairstyle with chameleon-like transformation!"

Ditching her trademark hip-hop honey style for the edgy cut, Cassie gives the undercut urban edge, while Mel B accessorises hers with gems! Brit winner Ellie Goulding is the latest to try the look, with a discrete take on the trend.

Says Kevin, "The undercut can also be used to expose the colour techniques within your hairstyle - each movement of the hair reveals a different aspect.  I would recommend undercuts for those with straight hair - but with imagination and technique the possibilities are endless."
