Salon extension services: party looks Katy Perry purple hair extensionsWith celebrities such as Rihanna and Katy Perry constantly changing their looks with the use of wigs and hair pieces, it’s no wonder clients are becoming more open to using temporary extensions to liven up their locks for a special occasion.   Whether it’s a prom, a wedding, a party or a festival, there  are a wealth of options for clients to choose from in the hair extensions market.   “Temporary extensions like clip-ins or wefts are fantastic  options for those going to a party or festival and looking for an affordable short-term change,” says Sonia Juttla, hair extension specialist at Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa, London. “However, it’s essential clients get their hairdresser to apply these initially so they can be cut and blended to the right style, otherwise they can look very obvious.”   Of course, sometimes obvious is exactly how clients want their party extensions to look, for example if they venture to the wilder end of the colour spectrum. “Extensions should be the natural progression for fashion colours,” says Paul Falltrick, Great Lengths brand ambassador. “They offer stylists to ability to add vibrant and pastel tones without any fade.”   Rainbow colours are particularly popular among young visitors to the salon, says Zoe Rodgers, artistic directors at Paul Edmonds, London. “We have noticed a high demand for colour extensions from our younger clientele,” she says. “The teens love the bright blue and green clip-ins – it’s a great way for them to experiment with colour but on a temporary basis.”   Feather extensions, sparkly strands, braids and buns can also be added to the hair for a quick-fix transformation, providing a cost-effective option for those who love to experiment with their look.
