The finalists of the Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year, presented by HJi and supported Your Hair magazine have been chosen.
Some of the brightest names in the hair industry narrowed down the hundreds of entries to the final five.
The finalists will now recreates their looks in the live final at the Clothes Show Live at the Birmingham NEC, on 6 December.

Could you be the Young Hairdresser of the Year 2009?

The Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year 2009, presented by HJi and supported by Your Hair, is back in 2009, recognising talented young stylists under the age of 30.
The nationwide competition is searching for an on-trend commercial look created by an up-and-coming hairdresser with between three and five years experience.

Senior stylist Megan Zarrabi, hob salons Northwood, was ecstatic when she won Clothes Show Young Hairdresser of the Year.
"I was absolutely gobsmacked when my name was called out, the standard was so high and I'd prepared myself for the worst," she says.

Megan Zarrabi of hob salons is the new Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year after wowing judges with her on-trend crop at the Clothes Show Live.
All 19 finalists* impressed the judging panel, that included Hall of Fame members Lisa Shepherd, Phil Smith of TONI&GUY and Charles and Karen Dodd of Cutting Room Creative, by recreating their photographic entry live on stage.

Young Hairdresser of the Year Finalists Photos

Twenty very talented young hairdressers - all under the age of 30 - have been selected as the finalists of the Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year Competition, presented by Hairdressers Journal Interactive and supported by Your Hair Magazine.
Judges Lisa Shepherd of Lisa Shepherd Salons, international creative director for Saks Andrew Barton, and Charles & Karen Dodds, creative directors for Cutting Room Creative, along with Jayne Lewis of HJ and Michelle Tiernan of Your Hair, had the tough task of whittling down hundreds of entries to select the 20 finalists.
Speaking about the unprecedentedly high standard of entries, Charles Dodds says: "Karen and I were blown away by the fantastic standard of entries for this great competition aimed at young stylists.
"It is great to see the improvement of hair photographic work coming through from such great young hairdressers. We are very much looking forward to judging the live final."
The 20 young hairdressers will now progress to the live final at the Clothes Show Live, on December 7, where they will be tasked with re-creating their image live on stage.

How to Enter Young Hairdresser of the Year

Following the success of last year's Young Hairdresser of the Year competition, HJi has once again teamed up with the Clothes Show Live to find the Young Hairdresser of the Year 2008.
Young Hairdresser of the Year is a nationwide competition that aims to recognise up-and-coming British hairdressing talent, and reinforce the importance of fashion and hair fusing together.
The competition is open to hairdressers who are qualified to NVQ level 2 or equivalent, who are under the age of 30, and have a minimum of three but a maximum of five years' experience.

Kate Hubbard is Young Hairdresser of the Year

Kate Hubbard from Royston Blythe in Wolverhampton was named winner of the inaugural Clothes Show Young Hairdresser of the Year, presented by HJi, competition.
Kate, 23, beat 18 other finalists to clinch the prize, which includes £1,000 cash, a stunning trophy and a photo shoot with Anthony Mascolo at the Bed Head Studio in London, which will appear on the front cover of HJ and co-sponsor Your Hair.
The finalists, all under the age of 30 with between three and five years' experience, had to recreate their photographic entry in front of a packed audience of hairdressers and consumers on the Hair and Beauty Stage at the Clothes Show Live.
Judges Lisa Shepherd, Phil Smith, Sean Dawson, HJ's Jayne Lewis-Orr and Alison Worthington from Your Hair then selected the six grand finalists to take part in a catwalk presentation in the Fashion Theatre.
Lisa Shepherd said: "This will make a massive difference to the winner's career. It will catapult them so fastly forward that it will be like achieving 10 years work in an instant."

The Young Hairdresser of the Year Finalists' Photos

The waiting is over and the finalists of the Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year, in association HJi, have been announced.
Over 100 young stylists with between three and five years' experience submitted their ladies commercial looks hoping to win the inagural Young Hairdresser of the Year crown.
After much delibertaion and some tough decisions, the judging panel of Lisa Shepherd, Paul Merritt, Andrew Barton and Beverly C narrowed down the photographs to their 20 favourites.
“This is the sort of competition I love judging above all others, it’s so exciting to see how much young talent is just bursting out of British hairdressing," said Lisa. "Judging was an almost impossible task with such a variety of skills showing through but there were a few that stood out for me.
"Well done to those who made it to the finals, what an amazing achievement. it’s just the start and I can’t wait to see them presenting live on stage at the Clothes Show. Just brilliant.”
The finalists will now have to re-create the looks they submitted in their photograpghs live on stage at the Clothes Show Live on December 9.
The top six on the day will go through to a live catwalk show in front of a packed crowd in the Fashion Theatre, before being narrowed down to one overall winner who will receive a trophy, £1,000 cash, a front cover shoot for HJ and Your Hair magazines and loads more amazing prizes.
