Michael-Young-MatrixSS.jpgThe sumptuous setting of the Grand Hotel, Brighton, was the perfect destination for 'A Night of Passion with Hooker and Young,' presented by Matrix and Salon Supplies.

Introducing the intimate event, Michael Young said: "We've put together a programme that will give you an insight into our world. We hope we are going to motivate and inspire you."

Combining a series of salon-ready looks, with an overview of how they work and an ambitious avant garde demonstration that saw them build four creative looks in ten minutes the pair lived up to their goal.

Famed for their beautiful imagery, the Gary and Michael created a series of salon-ready on-trend looks that featured asymmetric bobs, soft waves and an on-stage transformation from long hair to an edgy androgynous crop.

Gary-Hooker-Matrix-SS.jpg"The key thing to being a great stylist is identifying what kind of hair they've got and giving them a great cut for that hair," Gary explained to the audience as they demonstrated their looks.

As the British Hairdresser of the Year nominees explained the colour work that used an autumnal palette of rich reds and deep brunettes, Michael advised the audience to consider the client's existing hair colour.

"There are always elements of people's colour that you can use and accentuate to make the look even better," he said.

Next it was time to share some trade secrets as Gary and Michael explained the stories behind some of their award winning collections and revealed how they have achieved so much success: hard work.

Hooker-and-Yound-Avant-Gard.jpg"We research constantly and live and breathe hairdressing," Gary explained. "Take inspiration from everywhere. The web, music videos, fabric it can all help."

With the audience gripped, the pair then let their imaginations run wild as they used wefts and wigs to create extravagant shapes and dramatic turban-like creations.

"It's all about playing around, enjoying what you do and having the confidence to do it," they concluded to rapturous applause from the audience.
