Racoon Launches Subsidised Extensions Service

Racoon International has set up a heavily subsidised programme to provide an alternative to wigs for women suffering from medical hair loss.
The Racoon International Hair in Recovery Programme will offer an approved hair extensions service that the company claims is structured to be accessible and affordable to as many women as possible.
Celebrity hairdresser and Racoon ambassador Andrew Barton said: "Throughout my career, I have seen the devastating effects - both physical and psychological - women have experienced due to treatments like chemotherapy. I'm delighted to support Racoon International's Hair in Recovery Programme - it will really help women regain their confidence and boost their self-esteem."
Racoon has launched a pilot scheme and is seeking 100 women to take part in the programme. Once the pilot is completed, Racoon plans to roll the service out nationwide through its network of 5,000 appointed salons. It also hopes the service will eventually be offered through the NHS.
Racoon will subsidise 70% of the cost of the hair and bonding system to the patients, and all Racoon salons will reduce their hourly rate for application and maintenance visits. According to Racoon, the cost of a full head, including application, will range from £155 for 10in hair to £170 for 12in hair. Normally prices would start at around £450.

It's a lovely idea to offer people suffering hair loss as a result of chemotherapy the chance to move 'out of the shadows'. My experience however is that demand appears to have exceeded supply. My application for the hair in recovery programme was made more than two months ago, but sadly I haven't been offered a transformation yet. and probably not until 2010. I have to say that I'm hugely disappointed . My hopes were raised, ...but I'm still in the shadows.
