Diversion of professional products from the salon to high street stores remains one of biggest bones of contention for professional hairdressers; but rather than accepting it, Salon Success, the sole distributor of Paul Mitchell in the UK and Europe, have launched a full-scale assault since discovering that Boots are retailing Paul Mitchell products.
The matter came to light at the end of January when Paul Mitchell products, along with other professional brands, were found in nine of the high-street giant's flagship stores as well as on their website.

Guy Mascolo, co-founder of the TONI&GUY salon group, has died suddenly of a heart attack in his home in Dallas in the small hours of this morning.Since then the company had grown from a single shop to thousands of salons in over 20 countries worldwide.

The hairdressing industry has come out in force to remember Guy Mascolo who has died suddenly of a heart attack.
Guy, pictured with his brothers Anthony, Toni and Bruno, passed away in his home in Dallas on May 6th.
As co-founder of the TONI&GUY brand Guy has helped to shape hairdressing, both in the UK and overseas and will be sorely missed.

A capacity audience of 400 hairdressers turned up to the Northampton Theatre to see the artistic team at myhairdressers.com entertain, educate and inspire at the inaugral Hair Club Live event.
The evening began with a showcase from rising local talent Johnny Seckington of Seckingtons Hair.
Drawing inspiration from disco, Johnny showcased three models with an emphasis on big statement hair. Also acting as compere for the evening, Johnny then introduced the stars of the evening, Lee Stafford, Stacey Broughton and Bee Dixon.

Hairdressing teams from all over Europe put on a hair extravaganza that raised an amazing 80,000 Euros for leukaemia research at the Alternative Hair Show, Vienna.
Following from the theme of the London 2008 Alternative Hair Show, the Vienna event was entitled 'Emotions', which inspired the artistic teams to create their interpretations of love, anger, jealousy and anarchy.

Last night saw the final of Miss Great Britain take place in London -- with Miss Newcastle clinching the title.
As they walked the catwalk, with hair by Gary Baker from the Adee Phelan Salon, they answered questions from the judging panel comprising of actor Gary Lucy, actresses Adele Silva from Emmerdale and Coronation Street's Nikki Sanderson, singer Simon Webbe, celebrity agent Dave Read and footballer Paul Gasgoine. As the judges deliberated their winner, X-factor contestant Austin Drage entertained the audience of celebrities, which included David Van Day, Chris Quentin and a plethora of footballers and page three beauties.
The event, at Cafe de Paris in Piccadilly Circus, was sponsored by Vibe at Hair Tools, and saw 12 finalists battle it out in bikinis and ballgowns for the title.

Avant Garde stylist Robert Masciave recently created beautiful hair looks for lingerie label, Playful Promises debut graduate fashion collection, held at The Alternative Fashion Show.
The event, held at Spitalfields Market, is renowned for its edgy, risky, experimental fashion for the future is where every aspiring, up and coming designers, word wide hope to establish their label.
"My inspiration for this look was Boudoir Geisha," says Robert Masciave from Metropolis Hairdressing. "I wanted to create a modern adaption of the traditional Geisha look by incorporating gravity defying rolled quiffs set off with oversized corsages for a soft punk look."

Ben Dellicompagni of The Francesco Group, based in Stafford and the Midlands, has overcome killer mosquitoes, altitude sickness and sub-zero temperatures in a bid to raise an impressive £5,614 for the Hair and Beauty Benevolent.
Following in the footsteps of celebrites including Girls Aloud duo Cheryl Cole and Kimberley Walsh as well as Gary Barlow and Ronan Keating, Ben climbed to the 5681 metre summit of Kilimanjaro, the largest free standing mountain in the world.

hob salons have been named finalists in The British Franchise Association's (bfa) Franchisor of the Year Awards in the Express Newspapers' Brand Builder of the Year category.
The salon group, which now owns 10 salons and has a further five franchise salons, was short-listed to the final three and will discover if they have won on June 18.

More than 1,500 hair stylists have enjoyed a day of fun, entertainment and hair education at this year's Paul Mitchell® Spotlight Hair Camps.

Renowned colourists Jo Hansford, Jo O'Neil, Anita Cox and Lisa Shepherd, along with past L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy winner Alan Edwards and HJ's deputy editor Ruth Hunsley, inspected the youngsters work, colour placements and techniques.
The winner will be announced at the L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy Grand Final on June 1. Here's what the judges throught of the presentations:
The L'Oréal Professionnel Young Colourist Award live final, in association with HJ, has taken place at the L'Oréal International Academy in London, with the seven regional finalists creating their look live in front of a panel of judges.
The finalists - all under the age of 25 - then presented their mood boards and were interviewed by the judges.

'Andrew Collinge is as passionate about hairdressing as he was the day he started in the industry' it said on the ticket to the twice British Hairdresser of the Year's Fellowship Power Night.
If anyone was in any doubt about that, his masterclass, which demonstrated everything from the classic up-dos that marked his early career to the Avant Garde styles he created for the 2008 L'Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final presentation, was all the proof that you needed.

A panel of afro hair gurus have chosen the winner of the inaugural L'Oréal Professionnel Colour Trophy Mizani Afro Catwalk Look Award.
Michelle Thompson from Francesco Group, Junior Green from Junior Green Hair & Beauty, Tony Hegarty from Identity UK and award-winner Errol Douglas examined the models created at a live final held at the L'Oreal International Academy in London.
Inspired by the catwalk trends for autumn/winter 2009, the regional finalists had to create a total look on a female of African descent featuring a forward thinking hair cut and finish complemented with beautiful colour.
The winner will be announced at the Grand Final on June 1 - so what did the judges think?

The third HABB Day saw the charity embrace mobile technology, by asking everyone involved in the industry to donate via text. HABB offers a big thank you to those who took the time to text on HABB Day.

After four nail-biting regional heats, judged by some of the leading names in British hairdressing, this year's Wella Trend Vision Award UK Finalists have been chosen.
More than 600 competitors were narrowed down at an initial round of photographic judging, before the heats, held in Glasgow, Manchester, Kenilworth and London, whittled down the hairdressers to 20 stylists, under the age of 30 in the Young Talent Award and 16 colourists of any age in the Colour Category.
