Dated: October 3, 2008 12:29 PM

Cribbs-shopping-centre.jpgI've spent a busy week in the Cribbs Causeway Shopping Centre in Bristol with Mark Heyes from GMTV. We are doing four fashion shows a day for six days as part of their Fashion Week.

I'm not actually doing any hair on the stage; instead I am presenting the shows and doing a series of meet and greets and the odd free consultation. It's all good fun and Mark and I are good friends so there is plenty of banter.

Our last shows are on Sunday afternoon and then, on Monday, I'm off to Epsom for the second phase of the judging for the 2008 British Hairdressing Awards.

Lisa-Snowdon.jpgLisa Snowdon is used to standing out from the crowd: when her dulcet tones aren't ringing out across London's airways in the mornings she's spinning up a storm on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor.

One area where she seems to play it safe, however, is her hair where she always seems to stick to her long, free flowing locks.

But far from being dull and in need of an update, Shay Dempsey from Zoo in Belfast, thinks that it's the perfect style for such a jack of all trades.

These gorgeous folk really caught our eye at Salon International 2007 so we decided to use them in the super cool new HJi logo!

HJI-Gorgeous-logo.jpg

And because we had so much fun trawling the Hair Show hunting for the sexiest, sassiest, coolest, quirkiest and downright gorgeous folk in 2007, we're going to do it all over again.

This year, our paparazzi-style photographers will be looking for bold and beautiful visitors who really stand out from the crowd to snap.

If you get 'papped' we'll put your photo up in the 2008 Gorgeous Gallery and we'll then use the most eye-catching to create a brand new 'Image is Everything' logo.

So put your gladrags on and if you're snapped, don't forget to strike a pose!

Visit HJi on stand Z400 at Salon International where you will be able to see the new logo in all its glory.

Barrie-Stephen-Strictly.jpgThe team from Barrie Stephen's King Street salon proved they are a versatile bunch by taking to the dancefloor for a 'Strictly Cutting Edge Dance' challenge.

Inspired by BBC's Strictly Come Dancing, Barrie and his team were taught some ballroom steps and challenged to perform a cha-cha-cha routine live on BBC Radio Leicester in front of dance expert Bryan Allen, a regular judge at international and world ballroom championships.

Barrie, who partnered up with BBC Radio Leicester presenter Rupal Rajani for the challenge, said: "It was a much harder challenge than I thought it would be.

"I can see why the celebs on Strictly lose so much weight because the training requires a lot of effort and energy.

"The steps we learned were actually quite difficult, but it was a lot of fun. We must have impressed the judge too because we passed the challenge!"

The Fantastic Revolution

Alan Austin-Smith believes that the hairdressing industry is in need of a revolution that must take hold from the moment youngsters walk into the salon at 16.

Alan, the Fantastic Hairdresser, told his Salon Business Extra audience that the team is the most important aspect of hairdressing and therefore salon owners need to change the way they think to get the most out of their people.

He said: "I keep on hearing from salon owners who tell me that their team is not committed, is de-motivated and working against them.

"So I say that it is time for some dramatic changes to what we are doing."

Contrasting Hairstyles at the MOBO Awards

Creative stylist of James Roberts salon in Manchester, Ben Bradley provides his thoughts on the celebs' hairstyles at this year's MOBO Awards:

Mel b mobo.jpg

Mel B

When it comes to dramatic hairdos, no one does them bigger or better than Mel B.  While she may have recently ditched her curls for the straight and narrow, this look confirms she definitely hasn't abandoned her spicy side. Not really a look for the faint-hearted, this head-turning style has been achieved by first smoothing the hair with straightening irons, then securing into a ponytail at the front hairline. After which, the tail has then been split into four sections, before twisting and knotting it into place. While it maybe slightly extreme for most, hats off to Mel B for trying something new!

Jamelia mobo.jpgJamelia

There aren't many people that can carry off such a simple and strong style like this, but the stunning songstress pulls it off perfectly. This super-smooth do looks great on the Brummie beauty, and really works to epitomise her elegance and emphasise her eyes. This look has been achieved by sleeking her hair in to a ponytail using a little serum to add shine, before twisting the tail in to a bun and securing in place with strong hold shine spritz.

Alesha Dixon mobo.jpgAlesha Dixon

Glamorous and gorgeous, this Grecian Goddess 'do works really well on Ms. Dixon. While it would be nice to see her try something more daring than her conventional curls, she knows what suits her and gets it right every time. It appears that she has gone a shade darker for the event, which really complements her skin tone and gives the overall look an expensive finish. To achieve her MOBO mane, the hair has been set in heated rollers using serum to combat frizz and shine spray for added shimmer. Pinning her hair back with an elegant aliceband, gives Alesha's look an A-list finish.

Akin-men.jpgIt's no secret that male grooming is now a fundamental part of the hair industry, with men making up nearly a third of salon clientele.

Many leading manufacturers now have bespoke men's ranges, shows, seminars and stands throughout Salon International were all demonstrating the return to barber shop style.

Taking inspiration from the short back and sides of the 50s, men's hair had a military feel with hair left slightly longer on top for a smart look with an edgy twist.

hob-salon-main.jpgFirey reds, vivacious violets and beautiful blondes set the tone as hob salons showed you can push the boundaries but still meet your clients' needs in their Salon Seminar.

Taking inspiration from Vivienne Westwood, artist Marcus Rothko and Louis Vitton, this was all about using colour to create a wow factor.

Colour guru Christel Lundqvist created a series of stunning hairstyles, as blondes were given flashes of black, violet and blue; reds were infused with coppers and plums and brunettes received the glossiest shine.
