"I was on holiday last week and had a lovely time. We went to a farm house in the hills of Ibiza.
I was really ready for a break, although I was never far from a notepad and I spent a couple of hours a day on my Blackberry.
I'd rather do that than come back to thousands of emails. I actually came home feeling like I'd had a rest.
It was back to work on Monday, doing educational work with L'Oréal Professionnel in London and then in Manchester on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, I had a day of press appointments, seeing journalists all day to talk about my products brand and trends for autumn/winter.
I enjoy this side of my job - it's a case of sitting down all day and having a nice chat.
On Thursday I was in bed all day with food poisoning after a barbecue, so I didn't get much work done.
Today I'm back in the salon - it feels like I haven't been here for ages!"

You can tell it's silly season. This last fortnight there have been more celebrity hair horrors than you can shake an oversized stick at.
What do you say - does celebs' sense of style evaporate in the sun or are we being harsh? Did pregnant Gillian deserve our scorn? Were we wrong to see a spark of style in Jordin's red streaks? Join in the discussion on the My HJi forum.
|
Hot stuff... | |
| Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Could France's first lady look any more effortlessly gorgeous? The face-framing layers, the soft waves through the lengths and the multi-tonal glossy shades. Pretty much perfect we say. |
![]() | |
| Maggie Gyllenhaal With her head of shiny, bouncing, chocolate curls and sweeping side fringe, Maggie works the Hollywood glamour look as only an A-lister can. |
![]() | |
| Jordin Sparks Jordin's big bouncy curls were in danger of making her look old beyond her years; but the funky flame-red flashes and the cheeky smile achieve a cutesy look far more fitting of an American Idol. |
![]() | |
| Lindsay Lohan What ever happened to former celebrity hair hottie Lindsay? Those ends are drier than a Las Vegas summer, time to get a trim Miss Lohan! |
![]() | |
| Gillian Anderson Okay, we appreciate that soon-to-drop Gillian might have other things on her mind right now, but we still can't believe she took to the red carpet with those roots and those faded limp locks. |
![]() | |
| Kelly Rowland Poor Kelly's Naomi-style 'weave cleavage' really isn't a good look. Time to lay off the hairpieces for a while perhaps. |
![]() | |
| ...Feeling chilly | ||
Have Your Say on the Celebrity Hair-o-Meter
We want to know who you think looks hot or not every fortnight, so join the debate on the MyHJi Forums.

It's hard to name a celebrity who has had as huge impact on the hair industry as Victoria Beckham.
As she's gone from bob to short hair to extensions and back again, women across the nation have followed.
Now that Posh is cutting her teeth as one of LA's A-list, it looks like that ability is rubbing off with close pals Katie Holmes and Eva Longoria both unveiling new - and dare we say it, Posh-a-like - looks.
We asked Skyler McDonald, Creative Director of seanhanna, Wimbledon, to cast her eye over the trio's looks and tell us who is flattered by Posh's LA makeover and who should stick with their own style.

As you might have read, I have decided to withdraw my nomination from this year's British Hairdresser of the Year competition.
This was not a decision that I took lightly because when I received my nomination I was honoured and really excited. However after serious thought I realised that I couldn't put in the time and dedication that the award requires.
British Hairdresser of the Year nominees have to put together a photo collection of eight images. It is not just a case of turning up and taking styling the hair for the photographs. It would have involved at least a two day shoot and countless hours working on the concept, developing the idea and choosing the right models and I knew that there simply are not enough hours for me to do that.

This year, all three companies have created new ranges, which will be on view for the first time at Salon International - including the FA Porsche Black range and the Nutopia Backwash Unit.
Visitors will also discover that Aston & Fincher isn't just about furniture - the company also supplies salon design expertise, product lines and education. A team of representatives will be on hand throughout the show to discuss all these services.

It takes a confident man to walk into the Dragons' Den and ask the multi-millionaire quintet for £100,000; but then confidence is not something that Manchester hairdresser Frank Bisson is short of.
After all, this is the man who appeared on GMTV to demonstrate his Glass Hair Cutter and decided that the best way to do so was by cutting a volunteer's hair blindfolded.
That confidence was apparent in the Den when he used ventured over his three minute pitch time to cut a model's hair with his invention.

The autumn/winter 2008 catwalks saw the return of Hollywood glamour, with elegant, sleek hair updos complementing the chic, sophisticated clothes and mirror-shine fabrics.
Celebrities such as Heidi Klum and Cat Deeley have embraced the trend, with large sculptured buns and sleek curls adding the finishing touch to red carpet looks.
Updos are always popular as they can be adapted to suit any face shape. Round faces will benefit from a fringe or looser tendrils, whereas oval shapes are able to wear almost any style.
To create a glamorous hair up creation that will stay in place all night long, I prepare the hair with a versatile lotion with firm control, and add products for a high-gloss finish.

Hair up can dramatically change a woman's look and emphasise her best features, elongating the neck and slimming down her face.
Here, Heidi is sporting a classic, Audrey Hepburn style. It's very simple and very beautiful.
Cat has gone for a far more modern approach, combining an Alice band laced over the crown with her hair loosely coming away for a chic but slightly mussed-up effect.
The Paul Smith model is a great example of a multi-textured updo - sleek and pinned in at the sides with a front section back-brushed for texture and volume and swept over the top like a giant quiff, finished into a roll at the back of the head.

The perfect hair up is all about personalising it to the individual's face shape, hair texture, what they will be wearing and where they are going.
The Paul Smith updo here is a modern interpretation on the vertical roll and is a typical fashion show solution, as it is firm and won't fall out as easily in between outfit changes.
Cat's look is heavily influenced by the 60s, updated with a modern summer vibe, and Heidi's style would suit both oval and heart face shapes, with medium-to-thick hair types. For finer hair, padding could also be used to add volume.

A look at the catwalk shows and the red carpet reveals celebrities are opting for something more classic and technical - and what celebrities want today, the girl on the street will want tomorrow.
It's all very well being known for your beautiful blow-dries, but to stay one step ahead of the rest - and enhance your career - you need to be adept at a variety of techniques.
And unless today's hairdressers learn the more traditional techniques of pin curling, barrel curling or Marcel waves, these techniques are in danger of disappearing.
We asked a selection of hairdressers how important it is that hairdressers learn these techniques.
