What is the Freelance Hair & Beauty Federation (FHBF)?
The FHBF, established in 1993, is a non-profit- making organisation that helps freelance hairdressers and beauty professionals across the UK and Ireland with every aspect of running a successful business.
Who runs it?
Executive directors Sheila Abrahams and Heather Hopkins have extensive experience within the hair and beauty sectors. The FHBF is also a registered charity, funded by membership subscriptions and supported by sponsorship from across the industry.
What are its objectives?
The FHBF aims to help its members launch, grow and run professional businesses, and represents their interests in the industry. The organisation is committed to continual professional development, providing a range of bespoke training options.
What does it offer members?
To prevent members from feeling isolated when working independently, they are entitled to attend local FHBF group meetings. They also have access to a technical helpline, designed to give self-employed professionals who work alone a chance to talk through business issues they would otherwise have discussed with workplace colleagues.
What links does it have with the industry?
The FHBF has established relationships with companies including Wella Professionals, L’Oréal Professionnel, Clynol and Schwarzkopf Professional, offering members the opportunity to train with the manufacturers’ academies. Members have the opportunity to train with leading hairdressers, including Andrew Barton, Patrick Cameron, Trevor Sorbie, Charles Worthington and Beverly C. The organisation is recognised by the National Hairdressers’ Federation, the Hairdressing Council and Habia.
Who can become a member?
Different membership options are available to professionals at various stages of their career – from students to tutors, newly-qualified people and those with years of experience in the industry. For details visit www.fhbf.org.uk or call 01582 431783.
