Schwarzkopf Essential Looks: From the Catwalk to the Salon

When you see a beautiful hair collection in HJ it is easy to admire the beauty of the hair; but behind each collection there is a long creative process of inspiration, imagination and exploration.

While trend agencies, moods, film and music can have a big influence on what inspires these processes, Schwarzkopf Professional's inspiration for their Essential Looks comes directly from the fashion week catwalks.

"We take the inspiration direct from the international catwalk shows," says Steve Hogan Creative Director. "After the final show finishes in Paris we're ready to shoot the latest collection.

"One of the exciting things after you've done all the planning and written the ideas on paper is seeing the session stylists put it all together and give it their personal slant."

The looks that came from last autumn's catwalks inspired Schwarzkopf to come up with their Spirit Collection, which has four distinct fashion moods:

Speaking about the Essential Looks Spirit Collection Steve adds: "You don't realise the power you have as a hairdresser - to really make someone feel good about themselves.

"When someone comes in as a client and they're tired you spend an hour with them giving them a new hair cut and a new colour and you see them walk out the salon with that lift in their step then you know you have done the right thing and that is what Essential Looks is all about.

"Yes, it's giving people a new hair cut and a new colour but it's making them feel really good about themselves."
