Black Magic At TIGI's European Relase

Black Magic was the theme as hairdressers from across the continent dressed to impress at TIGI's European release at London's Grovsenor House Hotel.

And from Anthony Mascolo and his wife Pat graffiti spraying a model's hair and make-up; to a half-naked model performing a gymnastic display in the bath; to a hand-cuffed Anthony escaping from a pool of water the event was magic all the way!

Urban Detailing

The evening launched TIGI's 'colour with style' range and Anthony, dressed in his trade-mark black trilby, explained that colour with style is all about colouring hair to complement the cut.

As he spray-painted his model's hair blue, yellow and red, he told the fascinated audience "Colour is all about being fun and creative and pushing the boundaries. Good colour is an extension of the cut."

While Pat added: "Hair and make-up go hand in hand. It is about creating a total image."

The European Creative Team, with members from as far afield at Germany and Italy, then demonstrated the Urban Detailing collection.

Showcasing short hair cuts with undercutting and asymmetric fringes for both men and women, TIGi revelaved three distinct colouring categories:

Street - Young and edgy use of colour. A modern look that can be done quickly
Classic - A more mature look about all over colour and keeping it simple
Glamour - A classy feel to reflect the 'It Girl' vibe.

The Awards

After a break for dinner, it was time for the serious business of the awards to commence.

European Creative Director Nick Irwin and MD of European Operations Simon Ostler began with a presentation to the Inspirational Youth Team, who they said: "were keeping creativity alive in the hair industry".

There were then prizes, including a trip to New York or Puerto Rico; a shoot in the Bedhead Studio and a HJ Cover Shoot and £5,000 PR budget up for grabs for the winners of the photographic awards.

The big winners, as chosen by a panel of industry experts including Errol Douglas and HJ's Jayne Lewis-Orr (pictured above with the Bedhead for men models), were:

Youth Inspired Photography Award
Christopher Kennedy, Reds

Belgium Style Award
Evelyn Lickins and Lisa Michiels, House of Artistry in Belgium,

French Style Award
Ganoel Giuvchaume, Pascal Coste

UK Style Awards
Jamie Langley, the Cutting Room

Retail Salon of the Year
Yazz

Bedhead For Men

Finally it was time for a preview of the forthcoming Bedhead for Men range, but the show was certainly one for the girls.

From scantily clad models dressed as boxers and American footballers to silky-skilled soccer players and a posse of suited-and-booted 'city slickers' the show was to demonstrate that it is a range for men from all walks of life - designed to get the girls' pulses racing!

And just in case you're disappointed that you missed out, the good folk at TIGI have put the footage online so you too can enjoy the beautiful boy in the bath routine.
