Last week in Bangkok really took it out of me and I am only just recovering now.
One of my clients works for Red Bull and she brought some into the salon for me on Friday, so that perked me up a bit – which is good because there’s no time for me to slow down even if I wanted to.
This is a really important time for my collection for the British Hairdresser of the Year Award. The shoot takes place next week, so I am at the final planning stage, which means choosing the right models to complete my look.
Although this is the final countdown, I have been thinking about my collection ever since I found out that I had been nominated again. It has been a huge investment of time, energy and money.

Joico Vero K-PAK Color Artistic Director Sue Pemberton has won the Haircolor category in the annual North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA).

A NAHA finalist in 2004 and 2005, Sue beat off four other contestants to scoop the coveted Haircolour title.
“By combining the latest trends and colors with original techniques, I can create strong and vivid, but beautiful, fashionable looks.
“I like to challenge myself with the vibrant cycle of fashion and I am always looking for ways to be more creative and to produce innovative hair color,” said Sue, who trained as a hairdresser in Britain before moving to the States in the eighties.

Monday was an 'end-of term' day for our NVQ training. We spent the day doing lots of tests, going through files and getting things signed off.
Most of it was stuff that I have become quite used to now and I found myself reading through things that have become second nature - like asking a client what they want done and doing strength tests - and thinking 'oh yeah, I do that'.
There were a couple of things that I thought ‘oops, I should probably do a bit more of that’, but I suppose that is the whole point of a re-capping day.

This was my first training-free week and it felt seriously weird! I'd never thought I'd miss eductaion, but I really did.
The good thing is that you never you stop learning in the salon. Whenever I have free time, I'm always looking around to see what people are doing and what I can learn from them.
As I've said before, my absolute favourite thing is to watch Robbie our colour technician. The man is a genius!
When he's busy, he'll ask for a helping hand to colour someone's ends or hold the foils and it's all really good experience.

This week, I've got some really exciting news to kick off with: a fifth series of 10 Years Younger has just been commissioned and I am going to be the resident hairdresser again.
The programme has created commercial awareness for me and given me new opportunities but the great thing about it is that it really drives people into salons.
It also shows potential clients that, while some of the treatments are out of bounds for your average person, a good cut and colour is an achievable and affordable way to really improve your appearance.

If you can't wait until January, the 10 Years Younger Summer Specials begin on Thursday and I'm really looking forward to seeing them for the first time with the rest of you.
We shot them back in March and although I don't completely forget, I'll still be shouting 'there's no way that can be the same person!' at my TV.

August is a really strange time of year in the salon.
Not only are lots of staff away on holiday, but lots of the clients seem to be too. If you add in the fact I don't have my usual Monday training sessions and the whole thing is a hell of a lot quieter than usual.
That does mean it's a great time for me to watch what is going on around me, help out as much as I possibly can and learn from the senior staff.
At the moment, the main thing I am seeing is lots of people going for the summer's key trends: really blonde and quite short.
It's funny to see the difference between people who just have to have the season's Posh-inspired look and those who need a little more persuasion and take it in gradual steps.

There's one thing they all have in common though: they love the finished look. I can completely understand why; it is very cool! It's quite high maintenance, but the great thing about it is that it is versatile and can be worn funky one day and conservatively the next.

Have you spotted a drop in the number of redheads coming into your salon? If not, you may do soon because experts are predicting that redheads could be extinct as early as 2060.
The latest edition of National Geographic magazine says that just two per cent of the world's population is naturally redheaded.
And, as global intermingling has reduced the chances of reds pairing up and creating their own redheaded off-spring, there is real potential that they could become a thing of the past.
Anyhow, we think it would be a crying shame if redheads were no more. So as our tribute to the world of red we've put together our list of the top redheaded icons.

Last week I told you that the salon was pretty quiet - well this week it got even quieter! I can't wait until next week when there are more bookings in the system.
Out of the salon, it has been a busy few days, though, because I turned 17 on Sunday. I got lots of new clothes and some driving lessons for my birthday, so look out for me on the roads soon...
To celebrate, I had some of my friends round on Saturday night for a bit of a bash. Nights out have developed a bit of a pattern now, with the girls asking me to come over first to fix their hair.
I do whatever we have time for: maybe curling it and pinning a few bits up or straightening it and flicking the ends out. On Saturday, I went for a bit of a sixties big beehives look. It looked very cool and I'll definitely be going down that route again.

Like the rest of the Heat generation, we've watched the human timebomb that is Britney Spears with a mixture of curiosity, sympathy and fear for what might happen next.
This week, the Spears show hit another pivotal moment when she was spotted out post head shave and minus wig or extentions looking, quite frankly, frightful.
Being the positive folk we are, rather than jumping on the band wagon and focusing on the doom and gloom we'd thought we'd look for ways Britney can make the best of what she's got.

Seven local barbers worked their socks off to give members of the Brent community free hair cuts at the third annual Barberfest in Harlesden Plaza on August 18.
Local barbers Martin Francis and Tyrone Ferguson from Actife Gents Hair Studio, Eric Dawkins and Michael Cousins from Latti & Sons, Robert Godfrey from Faisal Barbers of London, and Damon Dixon and Clive Forbes from The Ranch managed to perform a record, one hundred and fifteen members haircuts at Barberfest 2007.
In addition to the hair cutting extravaganza was Barberfest's main event: the Harlesden Barber of the Year.
After a closely-fought contest, the panel of judges, which included barber to the stars Five, named Tyrone Ferguson from Actife Gents Hair Studio the big winner.
“I am very happy to have won this award and very thankful to the organizers,” said Tyrone (pictured below with his winning entry).

As predicted, the salon is a busier, buzzier place to be this week, which is quite a relief. I don't know what it is, but when it is really quiet you get a little lethargic and things become a bit of a chore.
Now that everyone is back, it feels like a new start and I'm really excited about the months ahead when we build up to the hectic Christmas period.
This last couple of weeks, we've had a mixture of clients coming in: those coming back after their summer holidays, older kids coming in for a trendier look before they go back to school, university students on their summer holidays and Reading Festival goers.

I'm now back from my summer holidays and straight back in at the deep end with lots of creative meetings ahead of Salon International.
The holiday was lovely and a very welcome break. We stayed in a gorgeous, rickety old farmhouse in Ibiza, and friends and family came out to visit.
There is a stereotype that Ibiza is a wild, party haven and bits of it are like that, but we go to a different part of the island that is really beautiful and idyllic.

We pack very little, spend the whole time barefoot and do our best to completely chill out. I think it is really important to take time out and come back re-energised and that is what I try to do - although work never completely leaves my mind.
That's why I have a little notepad that is always at my side - day and night! - and a very tiny one with a little pencil that can fit into a jacket pocket so I can take notes on special occasions.
Recently I was at a Budhist wedding and the couple were getting married on a bed of marigolds. The colour inspired me so I took my notepad out and jotted down my ideas during the service while they were fresh in my mind!
