Is your salon a wash-out?

Have you ever known a summer like this? Each morning you look out your curtains hoping for a ray of sunshine to blaze through the window, but each morning there's the same outcome - rain, rain, rain!

Much as it's put a dampner on plans for heady summer evenings, fun in the sun and topping up tans; there are also really serious implications of the perpetual rainfall.

I feel desperately sorry for anyone who's been turfed out of their homes, or had to dramatically change their lives because of flood damage; especially small businesses, including hair salons, that have taken a real battering.

I just wonder how people go about getting back on track, and have nothing but admiration for the never-say-die attitude you see in the people hardest hit.

If you're someone who's been affected by the torrential rain, I'd be really interested to hear how you've gone about getting on with your business.

The other thing about this, quite frankly horrid, weather is just how miserable everyone becomes. I can only imagine how much you guys must be pining for a little sun so that your clients start arriving with smiles on their faces.

Surely it would only take one day of unbroken sun - it wouldn't even have to be that hot! - and the country (and your salons) would be a happier place. Kate@HJi

Hi Kate,
What perfect timing reading your blog, I have Colour Lounge salon in Hull, where our whole basement area is our beauty spa and recently expanding into a training academy. We got totally wiped out by the horrendous floods in June which completely destroyed all our facilities downstairs! This all happened whilst I was on my way to attend a training course in London and got stuck on the train for 9 hrs! On my return and many tears later, myself and my partner Steve had to dramatically act quickly so Steve owning a clothes store had the genius idea of recreating a salon in an adjacent basement area unaffected and loaned to us by the council! The team of our staff were amazing working in wellies etc and helping to set up our new 'salon' whilst trying to eliminate and clean up our existing one! Within 12 long hours we had a temporary salon with 3 treatment rooms, changing facilities and even a relax area! Made from screens and shopfittings. Clients were loving it that we weren't to be beaten and really were great. We have just reopened our NEW spa that looks better than before, will get you some pics, and are planning a big relaunch! In conclusion, 'GOOD COMES OUT OF BAD ' just have the right postive mental attitude!!
