Is anyone else as troubled as me by the story in today's papers that says more and more people are embarking on DIY cosmetic surgery?
In case you don't have the time, or the stomach, to read the whole article, there are tales of at-home nose jobs (curiously replacing the cartillage with a chicken bone), tummy tucks (you can only imagine) and pinning back ears with super glue.
I know we're part of an image-is-everything generation obsessed with fame, beauty and celebrity, but the whole thing bothers me massively.
I look back at my DIY hair colour disasters from when I was younger (my student days, of course, I'd never do anything so irresponsible as a grown up) and remember the havoc I caused - imagine what harm I could have done with a knife.
Where does it go from here? Using hoovers for liposuction; DIY colonics and at-home hair transplants. The whole concept is terrifying...and just imagine the mess that you guys - the professionals - are going to have to clean up afterwards...

What a bizarre story, yet funnily enough, it isn't so suprising! In this day and age when we are absolutely driven by celebrity and appearance, people will do anything to keep up with the latest trends. Society has fallen victim to the fad for surgery and cosmetic enhancement; therefore it was only going to be a matter of time before someone decided to 'have a go at DIY'. We have seen this for ever and a day within hairdressing and have had to use our skills to correct problems; that's easy in comparison with the potential disasters (and tragedies) that could possibly occur from people trying their hand at cosmetic procedures at home. Botox parties are an obvious link to this current trend..no doubt people search the internet and find products that should only be used by professionals, and then have a go at home. The alarm bells should be ringing loud and clear at the moment...who knows where it will all end!

It sounds horrific, i'm so pleased I haven't seen this! Why on earth does one think that superglue will enhance their looks?
Bizarre.

OK - so how long before "DIY Plastic Surgery" is a reality TV show late night on Channel 5?
