Everyone remembers the nit nurse at school and the horrors of having to see her. But if you are a parent you will also wish Nora the nit nurse was back in business. Ever since my children started school we have been plagued by head lice. And sitting and combing long curly hair every night with a miniscule comb isn't my idea of fun. I thought I had found a solution -- using tea tree shampoo and conditioners seemed to get rid of them and for over a year our house has been nit free. But I recently heard that tea tree oil shouldn't be used on children long term so stopped -- and we've got nits again!! Does anyone know if this is true? What do you recommend to your clients? I'd love to know. ruthx

Today we received a statement from the National Hairdressers' Federation confirming that Keith Broughton - 'star' of last week's BBC 2 documentary Hair Wars - has resigned his position as leader of Team GB. Here's the NHF's statement in full:

I was shopping at one of my favourite high street clothes stores at the weekend in Oxford Street - and learned a lesson in how not to retain customers.

Last night I spent the night with a host of celebrities at the OK! Party, celebrating OK! magazine around the world. Held at the Billingsgate Market in London, I was a guest of Wella Professionals, who set up a salon to tend to the tresses of the guests.

I have just sat in on some of the live judging for the L'Oreal Young Colourist Award, and what an experience it was. I was delighted to see the passion, commitment and raw talent on display from those who had made it through to the live final.
They exuded confidence and ability in abundance and confirmed to me that the future of British hairdressing looks bright.

I spent Friday on the judging panel for the L'Oreal Colour Trophy Young Colourist Award, which is in association with HJ. I have judged many competitions but I have to say this was one of the most difficult. All the entrants were under the age of 25 but their passion, skill and determination to succeed made choosing the winner an impossible task. The finalists had already been judged photographically, and were now creating a look live. They had three hours to colour and style the hair, as well as be individually interviewed by myself along with top colourists Anita Cox, Carolyn Newman from Charles Worthington, Nathan Walker from Trevor Sorbie, Jo O'Neill from Toni & Guy and Lisa Shepherd. The award was designed to find the future of colour and if these youngsters are anything to go by, we are in for an exciting and inspiring time. Ruth@HJi x

I've spent this week on two very different photo shoots. The first on Monday was with the winner of the Paul Mitchell Colour Challenge. The team from Bobbers in Liverpool had never done a shoot before but their determination to succeed was second to none.

I know I'm still new to this industry, but I have, in the last six months seen a lot of hair. I've attended and taken notes at seminars and shows by some of the biggest names in hairdressing and I am often amazed at the creativity, drive and talent out there.

In the 25 May issue of Hairdressers Journal International we've asked readers to write and tell us which celebrity they would like to style. Which A-lister's locks would you like to chop, extend or colour?
Leave a comment here and we'll choose some to publish in HJ.

After six months, you'd think I'd be getting used to mixing with the stars of hairdressing, but yesterday I found myself star struck once again by the array of icons mingling at the 2007 L'Oréal Colour Trophy - Beverly C, Trevor Sorbie, Charles Worthington, Charlie Miller - to name but a few. Not so long ago, they were just names I vaguely recognised, now they are A-list celebs! And some of them actually know who I am.
