I have just had my hair cut by 2006 British Hairdresser of the Year nominee Akin Konizi at his Baker Street HOB Salon. Having naturally curly hair can be a challenge but after a consultation I felt safe in the knowledge that I was in expert hands. Talking with Akin about his clients, his passion for hair and his enthusiasm, it dawned on me that being a good hairdresser is all about the cut. Being a great hairdresser is about exceeding the client's expectations, being someone who listens, an architect of hair, a psychologist and an educator all rolled into one.
This is what makes a great hairdresser and this is why Akin will be joined by Andrew Barton, Richard Ward, Errol Douglas, Antoinette Beenders and Angelo Seminara, who will be battling it out to be crowned the best of British at the British Hairdressing Awards in a few weeks time. Being a good hairdresser is easy; being the best takes passion and dedication, which all six have in abundance. I for one can't wait to see who is crowned 2006 British Hairdresser of the Year. Good luck to them all! ruthx
