Gok Wan gets a makeover from Jamie Stevens

Posted by Matthew
Dated: July 23, 2008 3:34 PM

JamieStevensGokWan.jpgJamie Stevens, art director at Errol Douglas, London recently gave Britain's favourite makeover guru a makeover all of his own.

Gok Wan came into the Errol Douglas salon for a complete re-style and is now sporting a short-sided, longer on top look fit for a fashionista.

"Gok saw one of the images I'd done for a men's shoot and loved it," says Jamie. I took his extensions out and gave him a restyle previously, and he was ready for a complete new look for the new season this time round.

"We went for the short, hard military look - partings are changing to be harder and more regimented and have been big on the catwalks.

This is a great men's style for autumn through winter 2008."

Big Brother Celebrity Hair Hits and Horrors

Posted by Kate
Dated: July 23, 2008 12:53 PM

When it comes to celebrity status, the Big Brother 'stars' certainly demand plenty of column inches; but when it comes to celebrity style they're not quite so adept.

If they're not showing a little more flesh than we need to see, there's too much bling or another fashion faux pas raising eyebrows.

And as for the hair... well there are more hair extensions than in the family enclosure at an England match!

We asked a few leading hairdressers to cast their eye over some of the housemates who have managed to survive the celebrity status test of time; and it's fair to say there weren't to many complimentary comments going round.

Fortunately, they did have plenty of suggestions for how their hair styles could be improved, so if you're listening Chantelle and Co...

Celebrity Hair-o-Meter: Lily's Gone Back to Her Roots - Hurrah!

Posted by Kate
Dated: July 23, 2008 12:07 PM

We're been spoilt for choice when it comes to celebrity bad hair days in the past two weeks and, as ever on HJi, the Hair-o-Meter has honed in on the most hot and most horrendous hairstyles of the fortnight.

But what do you think? Does Davina deserve our dressing down? Does Agy's icy blonde leave you cold? Tell us your views at My HJi!

thermo2.gif Hot stuff...
Lily Allen
This paparazzi shot of Lily on the blower might not be her best picture, but we're so pleased to see she's ditched the pink phase and returned to her glossy, gorgeous deep brunette shade.
July-22-Lily.jpg
Lauren Laverne
TV presenter Lauren is becoming something of a regular on the glossies' best-dressed pages lately, and we think her hair is looking hot too. This dishevelled blonde style is perfect for rock-chick glam.
July22-Lauren.jpg
Agyness Deyn
It seems Agy can do no wrong when it comes to style - especially when it comes to her signature blonde locks. Despite her questionable 80s-tribute outfit, her colour shone onstage at the T4 On the Beach festival last week.
July-22-Agyness.jpg
Davina McCall
There's something about Davina's enormous quiff here that reminds us of a certain Cameron Diaz movie character... Probably not the look the presenter was hoping to evoke at a recent BB eviction.
July-22-Davina.jpg
Kathreya Kasisopa
She seems very sweet, but there's nothing cute about Big Brother 9 contestant Kathreya's hair. If she wins, mark our words: Heat magazine will give this lady a major makeover, starting from the top - literally!
July-22-Kathreya.jpg
Madonna
We love Madge but she's been languishing at the chilly end of the Hair-o-Meter for a while now and with this frizzy fright-wig it's easy to see why. Sack the stylist, Mrs Ritchie.

...Freezing

Have Your Say on the Celebrity Hair-o-Meter

We want to know who you think looks hot or not every fortnight, so join the debate on the MyHJi Forums.

Ramsay and Johnson Present The Neo Collection

Posted by Kate
Dated: July 20, 2008 11:34 AM

Revlon-Neo-Collection.jpgRamsay and Johnson
art team members, Neville Ramsay, Paul Johnson, Sara Sumner and Angey Rain, put on a stunning show to present Revlon Professional's exciting new NEO Collection, at Leeds Metropoliton University.

With signature features of sharp, on-trend disconnected bobs offset by softened interiors and long disconnected cuts with visor inspired fringes the NEO Collection has a strong commercial feel, which proved a massive hit with the 300-strong audience.

The collection was enhanced by an array of dramatic colours including bold coppers, inky blacks, cinnamon and icy blonde shades that showcased Revlon Professional's conditioning colours and offered ideas that could easily be translated to the salon.

The inspirational night concluded with a fast paced Grand Finale, with the Ramsay and Johnson team presenting dramatically masked models with oversized wigs giving a quirky ending to a superb event.

Posted by Kate
Dated: July 16, 2008 8:35 AM

Directors.jpg
The stunning surroundings of Kensington Roof Gardens proved to be the perfect venue for 400 hairdressers to party the night away at Goldwell & KMS California's 'Diamond Glamour' summer bash.

Celebrating 60 years of Goldwell and KMS California's Hollywood Glamour campaign, it really was glamour all the way from the champagne that was sipped, to the luxurious canapés and the hairdressing stars' hair masterclass.

On the stage, the Goldwell Ambassadors produced looks relating to the current Trend Zoom trends for 2008 from Goldwell, choosing from Newstalgia (1920's inspired) and Rockmantic (Rock-chic inspired). While the KMS Art Team focused on the Hollywood Glamour theme from the current KMS campaign.

Current Barber of the Year Chris Foster, of Gentlemen's Tonic and top hair stylist Anne Veck, owner of Anne Veck Hair, recently held a skills exchange.

A brilliant new idea designed to maximise their teams' skill sets;  Chris and Anne decided that it would be a valuable experience for them to do a role swap.

Chris attended Anne's Oxford salon to teach the team a number of his leading grooming skills, while Anne in turn showed Chris some of the latest trends hitting her salon.

Chris said "I think the day went really well. We had a great session and learned loads from each other. Life is for learning."
