Hairstyle hits and misses at 18th annual critics' choice movie awards Yesterday saw the second red carpet event in as many days, as Hollywood award season gets well and truly underway.

The 18th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards saw a host of well-dressed actresses striking a pose for the paps - here we take a look at the hottest hairstyles and top hair trends from the red carpet.

Both Amanda Seyfried and Jennifer Lawrence opted for knotted styles, with Amanda opting for a couture updo of knotted lengths wrapped around and pinned to create a beautiful, Eastern-inspired style.

Jennifer kept things slightly more casual, with a messy side bun and sweeping faux-fringe style. I love the texture in this look, but it feels as though it could have used some extensions or padding to create more of an impact.

Anne Hathaway continues to grow out her crop in style, with a cute side-swept look. Barely-there products give the impression that her hair is just pushed to one side but I'm sure there's a wealth of prep work in there, keeping this style perfectly placed.

Not actually rocking a crop, but doing a very good job of pretending, was Marion Cotillard whose side-swept and slicked-down style gave the impression of a gamine crop with a slightly undercut side. This style is great on Marion - maybe it'll encourage her to go for the chop for real?

Elle Fanning kept things simple and sweet with centre-parted, straight locks. I love the hint of grungy roots on her baby blonde locks - it gives a bit of teenage edge to this otherwise sweet and innocent look.

Also opting for straight hair, Eva Longoria added a bit of height to her petite frame with a quiffed sleek ponytail. The perfect match for her high-necked fuchsia gown - although I could see a topknot style working with this too.

It was a case of harking back to old Hollywood glamour for Emily Blunt and Emmy Rossum, who both chose classically formed waves. Both actresses added to the vintage factor by opting for a deep side parting, creating an elegant sweep of across the forehead.

Two of my favourite Hollywood redheads also opted for classic waves, with Jessica Chastain and Amy Adams both opting for smooth lengths with tonged curls through the very ends.

Interesting to see two of the industry's most glam redheads opt for such similar styles, but I think Jessica just has the edge on this one.

And it wasn't just redheads opting for vintage glamour - proving that the blonde bombshell look never gets old, Jaime King and Naomi Watts both chose to complement their shades with classic curls.

While Jaime's peroxide shade has a slightly punky feel, Naomi's golden tone and looser waves have an overall softer feel. These two are a great example of how a seemingly similar look can be easily adapted for the right age group - on the one hand is a strong, striking shade and highly structured look; on the other is a soft, flattering tone and an elegant shape.
