Stars of the stage and screen were celebrated at the 25th Nickeloden Annual Kids' Choice Awards in Los Angeles and as is befitting for a teen-friendly award ceremony, hairstyles on the red carpet were fun, fashion-forward and very, very colourful.

Katy Perry got the event off to a colourful start with a long blue and purple clip in-ponytail worn in an on-trend position high on the top of her head. Adding an extra bit of detail to her look, Katy wrapped the base of her ponytail with a plaited band. Bright pink lips, shimmering eyes and a neon green top completed this typically vibrant look from Katy.

She was once one of Hollywood's most dedicated colour chameleons, but Kelly Osbourne has been sporting this violet shade for a few months now and is trailblazing the pastel trend for summer. This lilac look works wonders with Kelly's skintone and the loose beachy waves are the perfect combination of cool and red carpet-worthy.

Teen star of Mad Men, Kiernan Shipka, opted for an on-trend high bun which feels perfect for her age while still being dressy for the red carpet. Loose flyaways around the face soften the style and prevent the look feeling too 'done'.

Kristen Stewart is the queen of undone, effortless hair and this loose ponytail is the perfect example of how she gets it right. The textured top and loosely curled lengths work nicely in contrast to her intricately embroidered blue dress for a look that's just right for this laidback award show.

Selena Gomez upped the glamour with loosely tonged, artfully mussed-up waves and a raked-back centre parting. This look feels fun and summery, making it an ideal choice for this red carpet event. There's just enough shine and volume through the mid-lengths of these waves to keep them on the right side of glam.

Victoria Justice proved that straight doesn't have to be strict, with smoothly-styled lengths and an imperfect centre parting. A hint of movement through the lengths prevent this look from feeling overworked for a fresh, smart style.

Bringing a pop of colour to the event, Willow Smith gave her shaved head a girly twist with a powdery pink hue. Giving this summer's pastel trend a literal translation, Willow's Pepto-Bismol pink is a fun, young look - but would she get away with it at school?!

Not to be outdone, Willow's mum Jada Pinkett-Smith also opted for a dramatic style. Shaved on one side into an undercut, the rest of her remaining length is piled into an asymmetric curled ponytail. This might be a kids' event, but does this look feel a little young on Jada? She's a beautiful woman with fantastic hair, but I'm not sure this is her best look!

heidi-klum-kids-choice-awards-2012.jpg
Supermodel Heidi Klum opted for loose waves with a touch of volume through the lengths to giver her midi-length cut a glamorous feel. As usual, Heidi's colour is perfect and this effortlessly styled look is the perfect example of Heidi's trademark laidback luxe.

Emma Stone has reverted back to blonde after a brief spell as a redhead - presumably for her upcoming reprised role in Spiderman. I love Emma as a redhead but she still looks lovely with this blonde shade, styled in loose waves and worn in a slightly off-centre parting.

ashley-tisdale-kids-choice-awards-2012.jpg
Ashley Tisdale brightened up her long blonde locks with a splash of raspberry pinkish red through the very lengths. It's a slightly unusual choice for the actress and feels a tad dated - perhaps she has a guest appearance in BFF Vanessa Hudgen's upcoming film, Spring Breakers?
