Nme awards 2011: best-tressed

While the rock industry may be dominated by male talent, the NME Awards 2011 still attracted a smattering of super-stylish indie chicks. From Alexa Chung to PJ Harvey, these women prove that rocking out doesn't mean dressing down.

Jaime Winstone and Alexa Chung are two of London's coolest party girls, so it was no surprise to spot them on the red carpet at the NME Awards.

Now sporting a reddish brown hue, Jaime wore her hair in a loose updo, with a sweeping fringe across the front. Alexa kept her hair simple as usual, with piles of texture through the lengths of her trademark bob.

French model Josephine de la Baume is the future Mrs Mark Ronson, so it's no surprise that she looked suitably chic at last night's awards. Dressed in a rather see-through vintage number, Josephine's hair was styled in long, loose mermaid waves for a laidback hippie-chic look.

Much like her fellow E4 presenter Alexa Chung, Jameela Jamil keeps her style simple - and it works. Her trademark glossy, blunt fringe contrasts perfectly against her long, dark waves for an effortless cool look.

The always-colourful Marina Diamandis accessorised her white dress with a slash of neon lipstick and a multi-coloured headscarf wrapped around her large topknot.

Super cool songstress PJ Harvey also opted for an all-white ensemble, and also chose to add a headpiece to her look. This white feathered contraption works perfectly against Polly Jean's jet black locks for a quirky cool look.

Radio 1 stalwart Jo Whiley looked chic as ever in a one-sleeved black dress, complemented with blonde curls swept up in to a slightly asymmetrical updo, with just a bit of extra length on the opposite side to her sleeve. Subtle and chic - I hope I look this good at 45!

Finally, Juliette Lews stuck to her trademark rock chick look with a slicked back barnet which showed off her widow's peak, making it in to a style statement rather than something to hide.
