Men's grooming still growing, research reveals VARIOUSThe Beautiful Britain report from Salon Services reveals some fascinating facts about men’s grooming in the UK. Here’s a small sample.
  • 49% of respondents have seen an increase in the number of male customers coming through their doors over the last 12 months
  • 27% of those who don’t currently offer male grooming, plan to introduce services in the next 12 months
  • Of those who offer male grooming, 19% of their clients are men
  • Hair cut remains the most popular male treatment in salons, according to 76% of professionals, followed by hair colour (62%), facial (55%) and massage (33%)
  • Average price for a men’s haircut in the UK is £12
  • Average prices for a men’s hair colour in the UK is £24
  • Men in the UK leave an average of 4.1 weeks between haircuts, according to professionals
  • Men in the UK leave an average of 5.8 weeks between hair colours, according to professionals
  • 67% of professionals chose the short sides and long on top style as the top male hair trend for 2014, followed by side parting at 26%
  • David Beckham was the biggest style inspiration for male clients again, according to 41% of professionals, followed by Gary Barlow (21%) and Mark Wright (13%)
Commenting on the research, Alan Revitt, commercial and marketing director, Salon Services, UK & Ireland, said: “We’ve seen steady growth in recent years of men coming into salons for beauty - as well as hair - treatments so the businesses that have branched into this market will be in a particularly strong position to grow in 2014.”
