Stripey Hair: Taking Colour Techniques Graphic

Stripey hair normally has negative connotations and brings about visions of dodgy highlights or badly done home dye jobs, but in the right hands stripes can turn from colour catastrophe to hair artistry. Former British Hairdresser of the Year, Angelo Seminara, has turned colouring hair into an art form, seeking inspiration from feathers, sushi and the nascent shades within oyster shells. Some of his most striking work has featured stripes and lines with painstaking colour application - he revealed to HJ that it could take up to four hours to prepare each strand. But proving that avant-garde hair can and does influence the catwalk, the Spring/Summer 2014 shows saw stripes at Rodarte in New York and at Ashish in London, where Ali Pirzadeh used L'Oreal Professionnel HairChalk to create bold bands of colour reflecting lines in the clothes. Sure, stripey hair is unlikely to become a mainstream hair trend but it's a great way to add some punch to your photographic work or to add temporary wow to a standout party look using temporary hair colour.
