Making a style statement with the swoosh Marie Ange Casta hairWhen hipster beauty blog Into the Gloss pick up on a style and declare it the sexiest style statement of the season, you know you're on to something. There might not appear to be much to the Swoosh - hair is nonchalantly flipped from one side to the other, and the bedhead finish is key - but this undone sophistication is what makes it just so sexy; see model Marie Ange Casta, left, who makes breezy brushed-back waves appear effortlessly cool. We spoke to Neil Barton of Neil Barton Hairdressing in Edinburgh for his verdict on the look... “This ‘swoosh’ hairstyle is all about big volume at the roots. There are a few variations on this look, one being the relaxed, grungy finish as seen on the likes of Drew Barrymore, and the other being the more glamorous, polished version as seen on Cindy Crawford. “The swoosh was a major trend in the 1990s, and as 1990s’ fashion is enjoying a massive revival on the catwalks and the high street, this hairstyle is making a comeback too. To achieve the look, blow-dry your client’s hair pointing the nozzle in the opposite direction to the side they will wear their parting on. “Once dry, add rollers to create extra lift at the roots. Remove the rollers and run your fingers through the hair, flipping it to the opposite side it naturally falls on to create that classic arch at the front.” See more swooshers that have stolen our hearts below...
