Cantu launches textured and afro hair training initiative for students Textured haircare brand Cantu Beauty has launched a nationwide textured and afro hair training initiative to educate hair professionals and students through a series of virtual masterclasses. The initiative will be led by Cantu Beauty's natural hair education expert and stylist, Dionne Smith. Dionne will host a series of live online training sessions for professional hairdressing and beauty colleges across the UK starting in February 2021. Colleges and lecturers can apply for a free masterclass by going to cantubeauty.co.uk/hair-initiative  and selected hair and beauty colleges will also have the chance to win the new Ebony doll with textured hair created by Dionne Smith to help stylists practise their new skills and techniques (subject to availability).

What is the aim of the new textured and afro hair training initiative?

The Textured Hair Pro-Training Initiative (#CantuHairInitiative) from Cantu Beauty aims to empower all stylists with the tools and techniques required to style and care for curly, coily and kinky hair. While, the ultimate aim is to remove the inequalities black and mixed-heritage communities face when seeking professional hairstyling services within the UK. Dionne explained the aim of this new initiative is support change within the professional hairdressing industry. She said:
The aim is to implement systemic change by helping reduce the number of microaggressions that our communities face when going into salons and being asked to leave due to a lack of knowledge and overall experience. I’m excited to be spearheading this and feel proud to work with a brand that is committed to support change in making caring and styling afro and textured hair a wider part of the hair curriculum.
Cantu Beauty's Precilia Zongo added: “We created this powerful Initiative to give hairstylists a chance to boost their skills and confidence when it comes to afro and textured hair. We’re committed to change and our goal is to empower budding stylists at hair and beauty colleges to help make learning how to care for and style all textured hair types the norm, so that they can better serve the black and mixed-heritage communities in the UK.” For more information about the campaign and how you, your team and apprentices or students can get involved go to cantubeauty.co.uk/hair-initiative.
