Name: Beverly C MBE

Salon: The Academy, Sackville Street, London

Career History: An Industry veteran, Beverly C has recently worked as consultant creative director for George Hammer at Aveda's Urban Retreat and for Toni Mascolo at essensuals/Toni&Guy as well as signing with Goldwell as a guest artist and creative consultant. A regular on TV and in the consumer press, Beverly has won numerous awards including London Hairdresser of the Year and British Hairdresser of the Year (twice) and was President of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing for three years. Beverly C Became the first female to be awarded an MBE for services to hairdressing when she received her investiture from the Queen on May 1. Beverly will be opening her new salon in London during 2008 and has recently been approached to launch her own product line.

What is your biggest achievement?

Winning the British Hairdresser of the Year twice and getting an MBE



If you weren't a hairdresser what would you be?

A sports teacher. I've always enjoyed educating others and was crazy about sport as a teenager



How would your clients describe you?

Compassionate, fun, always ready to listen and to give them what they really want and help them to feel great.



Which one style do you wish you had created?

The Bob - it's got to be the most iconic haircut of all time



Who is your style icon?

Linda Evangelista... cool, timeless, beautiful



Who is your hairdressing idol?

Vidal Sassoon



Which hairdresser would you most like to work with (past or present)? 

Sassoon (again)



Who cuts your hair?

Stephen Glendinning - a great hairdresser, colleague and friend



Favourite part of the job?

I absolutely love it all!  But I hate the paperwork!



Who is your most famous client past or present?

Most fun were All Saints... and at the time they were super-cool



Last time you were lost for words?

When I got a call from Downing Street about my MBE.  Like most hairdressers it's very unusual for me to be lost for words!



Which one product couldn't you live without?

Goldwell Light Kiss Hairspray... the best I've ever used (and that's saying something!)



Is there anything about the industry that makes you mad?

Yes, Prima donnas. I can't stand them



What's the biggest gaffe you've made in your career?

When I was teaching I thought one of my student's clients was a man when in fact she was a woman!  I just wanted to disappear



What's the best career advice you've ever been given?

Never give up!  Perseverance pays



Last time you were star-struck?

Meeting the Queen earlier this year



Time you were most proud to be in hairdressing?

I've been proud for the last twenty-five years



What celebrity haircut do you wish had never caught on?

Rod Stewart - The cut, the highlights...awful.  He can carry it off, though



What haircut would you love to make a comeback and how would you re-invent it for the Noughties?

The original 20's flapper bob, razor cut. I'd reinvent to make it sexier so it wasn't so harsh



Sleek and shiny or messy bed hair?

Sleek and shiny.  It's always beauty enhancing
