Green salon collective certifies as a b corporation Green Salon Collective have received prestigious B Corp certification, joining a growing group of companies who are reinventing business by pursuing purpose as well as profit.

What is a B Corporation?

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and the process is rigorous. Businesses need to provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency - and reach a benchmark score over 80. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles. GSC was established to ‘recycle the unrecyclable’ by finding ways of reusing all salon waste, be it through recycling, composting or conversion into energy. From used foil and colour tubes, to salon towels, chemicals and hair cuttings, the GSC is the original authority on salon sustainability throughout the UK and Ireland, with all profits raised donated to charity. The company joins only 4200 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps – including 500 UK-based brands, such as The Guardian, The Body Shop, Innocent and Abel & Cole.

B Corp community welcomes GSC

“Being able to welcome Green Salon Collective to the B Corp community is hugely exciting,” says Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement. “Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.” “We are pleased to have B Corps of all shapes and sizes as part of our community – from start-ups to multinationals and across many different industries. Business is a powerful force and B Corps demonstrate that you can do good in any sector. Welcoming Green Salon Collective is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the hairdressing industry.” Paul Seaward, co-founder of the GSC, says: “B Corp certification is confirmation that Green Salon Collective is using its influence for good – to encourage others to consider the differences they can make. We have a responsibility towards people and the planet as a whole and we hope that this recognition inspires others to look at how they can adapt their businesses to be more accountable, both socially and environmentally.”
