Get smart Asking your energy supplier to install a smart meter is a great first step to save energy. It will help track energy costs, allowing you to budget effectively. You can see by the data recorded by the meter when energy is being wasted.  For example, some equipment uses a lot of energy whilst on standby, so you’ll know to unplug them overnight. Hit refresh If refurbishing your premises, get advice on lighting, insulation, triple-glazed windows and automatic doors. These can reduce heat loss and energy costs and can help create a comfortable environment for customers. As well as saving you pennies in the long run. Don’t get in hot water Energy spend on heating water is likely to be significant. Consider low-flow taps and flow regulators and make sure your boiler is properly sized. Use timers to switch off water heaters half an hour before you close. Get heat feedback Only heat where you need, when you need, to the temperature you need. Ask staff and customers for feedback and test thermostats with a thermometer. Ensure heating and cooling don’t run simultaneously, and turn them off well before you close. Label your lights Stick labels on light switches so staff easily remember to turn off lights when not in use. Ask your electrician about LED bulbs, as well as occupancy and daylight sensors, to understand how they might save you money.
