Rush Live 2019, in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, honoured 25 years of the salon group with a thrilling combination of looks from their heritage combined with the cuts and colours that they are working on right now. With the Rush colour stars on stage, it was rather fitting that they should set about creating stars in the hair in their new collection Point Constellation. “We’ve been looking at stars and the night sky as the inspiration for the whole collection,” said International Colour Director Chris Williams as he stencilled a star shape onto an undercut. “Star silhouettes, stencilling, star sectioning patterns and working with a desaturated, almost monochromatic colour palette.” Those greys and ashes were contrasted with clean blondes and lilac hues for dramatic and eye-catching effect. Stand out colour work included zigzag ‘constellation’ lines and darker shadows around the undercut which added depth and dimension to the head-hugging shapes. This was a celebration of 25 years of Rush and so the future generation brought some of the group’s award-winning images of the past up to date. The Workshop Team, which included British Hairdressing Awards Finalists Ryan Humpage and Michael Rackett, shared the inspiring tales of their careers to date as they preened their models. As the reinvented looks were revealed the models unveiled t-shirts that showcased the original look. Education director Tina Farey put on a solo performance of avant garde excellence. A voluminous exaggerated shape was given definition with bold colour placement in cobalt, canary and white. Tina then added matching hairpieces to the ears for a fun, but tribal feel. The Rush Art team cutting specialists, headed up by International Creative Director Andy Heasman then created the strong graphic lines and points of stars in a graphic bobs and textured crops while Academy Manager Paola Pinto created a moon-like halo of curls. As the soundtrack pumped out Beautiful People by Chris Brown the gorgeous models and talented team returned to the stage to rapturous applause from the audience.
