Barber backchat: ross charles reveals his hair hero and his plans for salon international In the latest instalment of online series Barber Backchat, we caught up with Ross Charles who shared who his hair hero is, his plans for his stage slot at HJ Live North and his most embarrassing stage moment. What are you planning for your stint on the HJ Men in association with Wahl stage? I am planning to share my razor techniques and inform the audience about the Donald Scott NYC razor tools and working with them as brand ambassador. I look forward to sharing my razor artistry history and the range of different looks and shapes you can create with these incredible tools. Describe the moment you knew you wanted to be a barber/ men’s hairdresser? My family have been involved in the hairdressing industry since 1974 and I cut my first hair style at the very young age of twelve in 1993. I instantly knew that this was my passion and something I definitely wanted to pursue.  What’s your most embarrassing moment? I cut myself on stage and had to continue to cut the hair with one hand in front of the live audience! What makes you feel proud? I am fiercely proud of owning my own salon, Ross Charles Hairdressing in York, and opening my business with my wife ten years ago. I am also proud of my photographic work and finalising for Men’s British Hairdresser of the Year at the 2017 British Hairdressing Awards – that was definitely one of my best career moments to date.  Do you have a hair hero? I think my hair hero has to be my dad, David Charles. He invested a lot of time and effort into me at the outset of my career and I truly value and respect him as a hairdresser.  How would you sum yourself up in three words? Creative, driven and passionate. Catch Ross Charles on stage on Monday 22 October at 13.10 at HJ Live North on the HJ Men Stage in association with Wahl.
