Following the massive success of HJ's live competitions at last year's Salon International, all six competitions will be returning for you to showcase your skills. Barber of the Year, sponsored by Andis, Rising Star, Bridal Hairdresser of the Year and Extensions Specialist of the Year, sponsored by Remi Cachet will again take place over the weekend of 14-16 October.

AFRO STYLIST OF THE YEAR

Afro Stylist of the Year

Are you looking to showcase your skills and knowledge in afro hairdressing? HJ’s Afro Stylist of the Year is ideal for those with a passion for Afro hair – so what are you waiting for? If you are qualified to NVQ level 2 or above and have a minimum of five years’ experience, simply upload an an-trend Afro look. Finalists will be invited to recreate their look in a 35-minute competition environment at Salon International on 15 October.

  • Entrants have to be qualified to NVQ Level 2 or above or have a minimum of five years' experience.
  • To enter, please submit a photo of a trend-led Afro look.
  • The image can be in colour or black and white and does not have to be shot professionally but the hair needs to be in focus.
  • The image must be between 2MB and 5MB in size.
  • Make sure you can recreate the look in a 35-minute live competition at Salon International on Sunday 15 October 2017 at ExCeL London.
  • The deadline is at 5pm on 8 September 2017.
  • Finalists in the live final will not have access to wet prep. They will be able to prep at their competition table prior to the start of the competition where make-up can be applied and hair can be wet sprayed or dampened down.
  • All technical work (rollers, pin curls etc.) and extension application must be completed prior to arriving at Salon International as there will not be time, or the facilities on site, to colour hair or apply extensions.
  • Only the model, hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist, if required, are allowed in the competition area prior to the start of the competition.
  • Once the competition has started, only the model and hairdresser will be allowed in the competition area.

HJ's Extensions Specialist Award

HJ’s Extensions Specialist of the Year, sponsored by Remi Cachet, recognises stylists who regularly inspire their clients with an extension service. HJ’s Extensions Specialist of the Year is open to all UK stylists trained to NVQ level 2 or above or who have a minimum of five years’ experience. To enter, just send us a shot of a beautiful look using extensions, with a before and during application image, and a few words on how you created the look.

HJ’s Rising Star of the Year is ideal for those who want to step outside their comfort zone and present in front of an international audience – so what are you waiting for? If you are unqualified, studying NVQ level 1 or 2 or equivalent, simply upload an an-trend Afro look. Finalists will be invited to recreate their look in a 35-minute competition environment at Salon International on 15 October.

  • Open to all UK stduents who are unqualified, studying NVQ Level 1 or 2 or equivalent.
  • Entrants can be salon or college based.
