Rainbow room international celebrates 40th anniversary Rainbow Room International, Scotland’s largest salon group, mark its 40th anniversary. In 1979 Alan and Linda Stewart, founders of the company, opened their first salon in Buchanan Street. Now the salon group has spread across Glasgow, Ayr, Clarkston, Stirling, East Killbride and Uddingston. Alan commented, "I feel extremely proud of hitting another milestone. In some ways it seems as if it was yesterday and gone in a flash, but as everyone knows it is down to learning, education, meticulous planning and re planning. It has been an incredible journey, which Linda and I are still enjoying. Our team of Directors and Creative Team push us harder than ever and we both appreciate that. We will continue to develop the brand with our amazing team and have fun doing what we have been doing every day.” The salon group is amongst the first salons in the UK to introduce Shiatsu massage, a beauty salon, which was Glasgow’s first Day Spa and Floatarium. It has also been a catalyst in developing a revolutionary concept - the Rainbow Room International Academy. The now 7, 500 sq ft Academy was created in 1983 with the idea to help their team continually improve, develop and progress in the company, and to be able to provide training courses and apprenticeships schemes to stylists and students. The aim is to teach hairdressing professionals from the UK and overseas new skills and perfect existing ones. The Academy is now the forefront of today’s most advanced development programme and has won a number of both creative and industry led awards. Rainbow Room International continues to put programs into place with the aim to train a staff of professionals. It also provides a sold career structure with on-going staff and management training and have a Fame Academy for young stylists, as well as an awards programme.
