Industry says a sad farewell to terry calvert remembering-terry-calvert.jpg
It has been requested by Mrs Terry Calvert that those of you wishing to celebrate the life of her husband join her at the proposed Memorial service, the date of which is to be confirmed.

A private ceremony has been arranged for Terry's cremation, which due to space limitations will be attended by family and close friends, and which will be by invitation only.

We strongly request that you please honour these very important wishes, and let Lindsay and her close friends and family say goodbye in the way they choose to.

Kevin Arkell
Chairman
Fellowship for British Hairdressing

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Terry Calvert. Terry, founder of the Clipso Group and president of the Fellowship for British Hairdressing tragically lost his battle with cancer on Thursday 3 February.

Terry Calvert was one of the most admired hairdressers of his generation.  His passion for the craft of hairdressing and the industry as a whole was inspirational, while his personality combined a warmth, humour and integrity that made him loved as much as a person as a hairdresser.

Terry was one of a rare breed of successful hairdressers who was also blessed with enviable business acumen, opening his first Clipso salon in Watford in 1978, following success as a session stylist.

Expansion followed through franchising and building Clipso's reputation for great hairdressing with a string of awards, with Terry himself named Southern Hairdresser of the Year in 1985 and 1986 at HJ's British Hairdressing Awards.

During his career he earned the respect of his industry, not least for his commitment to the Fellowship for British Hairdressing - during the last year of his life he took on the role of president for the creative industry body, but his involvement dates back years, including stints as director of the FAME Team.

Speaking at the 2010 Fellowship Luncheon, which Terry was sadly too ill to attend, chairman Kevin Arkell said of his president: "Terry's impact on the Fellowship has been unbelievable. Terry may have been ill and had surgery but he has been more active than ever. Terry has an exceptionally talented and creative brain and has a true love of the industry. The ideas he has originated have been invaluable."

Terry had battled with illness before and won. In true Terry Calvert style, he bounced back with a win at the L'Oreal Colour Trophy in 1992.

The industry was hoping that Terry would win this latest battle too, but sadly he lost this one. What he won, however, was the love and respect of his peers and what he leaves behind is a legacy of creative hairdressing and a business that will continue to grow thanks to the foundations he built.

Our thoughts are with his wife Lindsay and his four children.
