Sticky situation: the tiktok users who went viral for using gorilla glue in their hair Tessica Brown recently went viral on TikTok for spraying Gorilla Glue in her hair after running out of hairspray - here’s everything you need to know about her recovery, charity efforts and the (worrying) possibility that this may become a new trend. The 40-year-old Louisiana resident began gaining widespread online attention for her mistake, which she had made almost a month prior, after posting a video to the social media site showing off her stuck, immovable hair, quickly becoming known as the ‘Gorilla Glue Girl’. Following this surge of attention, LA-based Dr. Michael Obeng from the reconstructive surgery charity Restore Foundation reached out to Tessica saying he could remove the Gorilla Glue from her hair. Prior to the procedure, Tessica launched a GoFundMe page in order to raise $1,500 for the wigs she would need. However, due to the TikTok video’s virality, Tessica managed to raise over $23,000. https://www.instagram.com/p/CK9rIuUFsm8/ After Dr Obeng offered the €12,500, four-hour procedure for free, a fully-recovered Tessica has said she will offer $20,000 of the raised funds to the Restore Foundation. The rest of the money will be put towards a necessary ER visit and travel expenses for the surgery. To remove the Gorilla Glue from Tessica’s hair, Dr. Obeng created a mixture of chemicals and natural products which break down adhesives, as well as MGD - a mixture of aloe vera and olive oil. This was then followed by a careful use of medical tweezers to unpick the hairs and a deep conditioning treatment. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLPB_CClQEk/ Over Instagram, Tessica offered her thanks for Michael: “Words cannot even explain how I feel about @drmichaelkobeng you really gave me my life back and I am forever grateful.” On the incident, Gorilla Glue posted to Twitter: “'We are aware of the situation and we are very sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident that Miss Brown experienced using our Spray Adhesive on her hair. We are glad to see in her recent video that Miss Brown has received medical treatment from her local medical facility and wish her the best.” https://www.instagram.com/p/CLUV7pygzZf/?igshid=88opsllf7t1a Unfortunately, the story doesn’t quite finish there. Following the incident, a further case has emerged with striking similarities. 20-year-old Avani Reyes, who has over 459,000 followers on TikTok, has also recently gone viral with a video showing off her hardened locks, claiming she accidentally used Gorilla Glue in her hair also. Many users are accusing Avani of replicating the stunt as a bid for viral fame herself. User amybmua commented: “Someone was hungry for views huh?” and zodiacastologer asking “Why is this even a trend?”

We’re left desperately hoping this doesn’t become a new way of gaining followers. For tips on how to build up a following without putting Gorilla Glue in your hair, check out our guide to getting your salon on TikTok.
