Goldwell’s The Hub Inspires in Tenerife
Nearly 100 KMS and Goldwell salon owners gathered at the five-star Gran Melia Palacio de Isora resort on the seafront on the south of the island for the inaugural Hub Network event.
The two-day event saw inspirational presentations from a host of industry and expert motivators, as well as a poolside dinner and networking opportunities with other salon and business owners.
General manager UK for KAO Salon Division, Mark Giannandrea, welcomed everyone to the resort, with a fascinating insight into the industry. “Hairdressing is the 5th most popular start-up business, after coffee shops,” he said, adding that 12 new salons opened every week in 2016, and48% of those working in the industry self employed.
Other speakers included industry consultant Julie Eldrett, who talked about the salon being like a theatre, with the salon owner the director, the team the actors and clients the audience. Guests were given key legal advice from Laura Chalkley, head of the National Hairdressers Federation legal helpline team and an expert in employment law.
With more than 20 years experience in the industry, Emil McMahon looked at how fashion and beauty brands entice clients to purchase their products online, and what hairdressers can learn from them to increase retail in the salon.
Other speakers included Maggie Nordon, creative director of media at London College of Fashion who took a creative look at trends, and Neil Ballinger, digital and mobile strategist, who took the audience through the A-Z of Digital and how these will impact their businesses in the future.
Key speaker was Queen of Shops Mary Portas, with a fascinating presentation on her journey to where she is today, as well as her business manifesto to ensure she gets the most from her team, how to treat team members and how to achieve success at all levels. It’s all about we, not me, she stressed.
The event came to a close with a panel of Goldwell guest artists – Mark Leeson, Beverly C, Neil Barton and Shane Bennett – discussing hot industry topics.
