Ruffians opens sociable salon in marylebone Ruffians Marylebone 2The new Ruffians salon in London’s Marylebone encourages interaction between clients and team members through ergonomic design From the West End of Edinburgh to London’s Marylebone in less than four years, it’s been quite a journey for men’s grooming specialist Ruffians. With a firm foothold already established in the capital with the brand’s thriving Covent Garden salon, expanding to another area of London was an obvious move. The premises in Wigmore Street were already a salon, but the Ruffians team decided to gut the premises completely and start from scratch. Says Andrew: “A serious amount had to be done. We stripped down to the bare bones. Ruffians signature look is evident at the Wigmore Street salon – solid oak cutting desks with integrated Belfast sinks, a grey/blue colour scheme, metallic shelving and iconic petrol blue Apollo ll chairs, supplied by Takara Belmont. Wall coverings range from original brick, rough swan timber panels and cracked metro tiles. “We like the variety,” says Andrew. “It breaks up the waiting, retail and service areas, while creating interest.” While the Wigmore Street salon is obviously part of the Ruffians stable, it has its own vibe, says Andrew. “The Marylebone shop is 60% our Ruffians core identity and 40% its own entity and character,” he says. All design features are built around the main focal point for Ruffians which is the social interaction between clients and team members. Says Andrew: “Our communal cutting desks are our main feature. We’ve improved them through every shop and this time they are bigger, with better mirrors, more drawers for storage and bigger Belfast sinks for the clients to make their hair-washing more comfortable.”   Name: Ruffians, Marylebone Address: 63 Wigmore Street, London W1U 1PX Size: 1,050 sq ft Styling stations: 11 Time at the location: Since December 2015 Number of staff: 9 [hji-gallery-legacy]
