Meet hj's men's hairdressers of the year Terri Kay and Andrea Giles of Mark Leeson Salons in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire took home the trophy for Men’s Hairdressers of the Year at HJ’s British Hairdressing Awards, sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. You can read the full interview in the Spring edition of HJ Men, but here's a taster. What do you love about men’s hair? Terri: What’s not to love about playing with beautiful men’s hair all day! It’s so creative and I think there is so much fun still to be had with men’s hairdressing. Andrea: I love the versatility of men’s hairdressing; how a certain sharp line or fade can completely transform a men’s haircut and the impact of lengths and textures have to the overall look. Do you have a lot of male clients at Mark Leeson – what styles are they asking for? Terri: We do have a lot of male clients in the salon that are all quite diverse in the styles. We’re certainly seeing a rise in men with longer, mullet-style cuts that want that very much done/undone look. I think it’s a big fashion cycle of the 80s that is coming back round again and I think it’s great!  On the flip-side, we have very groomed gentleman than are requesting that clean cut using more traditional barbering techniques. Where do your clients get their inspiration from for their hair looks? Andrea: The great thing about men’s hairdressing is it is so much more accepting these days. Men are getting bolder and more experimental with their styles and it’s great to see them more open to try something new and listen to the advice given by their hairdressers. Therefore, I guess we, the hairdressers, are their inspiration as it’s our job to give them advice on which styles suit them and their lifestyle. Comm by HJ, Ruth Hunsley
