The American Music Awards (AMAs) returned, with some incredible hair looks from celebrity attendees.

The American Music Awards celebrated its 49th year last night (21 November), as celebs stepped out onto the red carpet with a host of amazing hair moments, with ponytails and braided looks taking over the carpet. Here, HJ rounds up some of the best hair looks from the AMAs…

Best Hair Looks at the AMAs 2021

Braid Brigade

Zoe Wees

Singer-songwriter Zoe Wees sported floor length red and yellow braids for her first AMAs red carpet. The 19 year old’s look was courtesy of House of Braid founder Tassara Azad, with red, orange and yellow gems along her partings and an iridescent silver wrap around four of the braids.

Chloe Bailey

Singer Chloe Bailey swapped her blonde locs for a fiery red look that passed her waist, matching the carpet at the event, where she performed her single ‘Have Mercy’.

Marsai Martin

‘Black-ish’ star Marsai Martin’s long braided look was created by celebrity hair stylist Alexander Armand.

Powerful Ponytails

Singer Jojo sported a high blonde ponytail with a dark root, flicking out the ends of her hair.

Coi Leray

Rapper Coi Leray added a statement full fringe to her sleek and short ponytail.

Tate McRae

Tate McRae stunned with a sleek long ponytail with a middle parting.

Long and luscious

Cardi B

Viewers struggled to keep up with how many outfit changes the rapper, who was hosting the event, made. Cardi B wore ten different looks over the course of the night, with long dark hair elevated by a full fringe and statement sideburns, and a host of hair accessories through the night.

JoJo Siwa

For her first AMAs, Jojo Siwa ditched her signature high-ponytails and bright colours for a more classic look, with her long blonde hair in loose curls.

Olivia Rodrigo

New Artist of the Year Olivia Rodrigo wore her dark hair in long, loose curls for her first AMAs.
