Next labour party manifesto will include the hair and beauty industry In response to the launch of the Hair and Barber Council's Economic Impact Assessment on 22 May in the Palace of Westminster, the Labour Party manifesto will include the cause of mandatory state registration. It will also provide recognition to the hair and beauty industry. Following the Hair and Barber Council’s Economic Impact Assessment, Hamish Sandison approached Keith Conniford, Hair and Barber Council registrar. As a result, the labour business chair promised to raise the concern and include the industry in its next manifesto. "The Hair and Barber Council’s Economic Impact Assessment is a milestone in positioning the hair and beauty sector as a political force to be reckoned with," read a statement sent via the Labour Party.

The  survey revealed the following:

  • The hair, barber and beauty industry contributes around £6.6 billion to the UK economy.
  • It employs around 337 000 in 49 000 businesses.
  • Business owners under the age of 25 will double the UK average.
  • Around 16 000 apprentices in the industry are currently training.
Keith shared: "Our report has given us all the information successive Governments have asked for and has greatly spearheaded our cause higher up the political agenda."
