L'oréal professionnel reset your mindset talk with formula 1 guru

L'Oréal Professionnel Reset Your Mindset session featured Formula 1 guru Mark Gallagher and displayed some interesting parallels between hairdressing and the Formula 1 industries. The Reset Your Mindset session, held on the evening on Monday 1 March, was an inspiring event and discussion about creating a winning mindset. Guest motivational speaker Mark Gallagher, gave a brilliant virtual talk about the true meaning of building a ‘winning team’ and a ‘winning mindset’. Mark's expertise in international sport spans a lifetime spent in the global business of Formula 1 and he's worked with some of the greats in the sport. He explained the secret to the success and achievements of Lewis Hamilton, statistically the most successful Formula 1 driver of all time. Mark raised him up as a positive role model, shared how he had dealt with racism during his career and how his team player qualities helped with his success. He then went on to describe the secret to David Coultard's success. "David careful planned all of his career, not just where he wanted to get to with Formula 1 years – but what happens after that part of his career would end," Mark says. "He is a people person - he sees the importance of meeting and greeting every single person around him. He puts in the hard work and the time." Mark then touched on the challenges of Formula 1 and the parallel challenges the hairdressing industry has faced. Most recently, COVID-19. "But during the pandemic people have realised what you do for them – and it's not just 'doing their hair'." After hearing from Mark, host of the event, Monica Teodoro, L’Oréal Professional product division’s general manager for education and professional development UK & Ireland, was joined by Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of Hairdressers Journal International and business award-winning salon owner of The Gallery, Lorenzo Colangelo, for a live Q&A. Jayne Lewis-Orr says: "The similarities between Formula 1 and hairdressing although not immediately obvious absolutely are there. The whole team need to be on the same journey and you need to learn from your mistakes." Lorenzo Colangelo says: "Manage people as individuals – it's not a one-size fits all approach. If there's a weakness in the team as a leader I want to know and help people. We set goals at the start of lockdown to communicate better and to come back stronger as a team."
