On Sunday night our beloved celebrities strutted down the red carpet at the MTV EMA awards show in Seville, Spain, where some of them proudly received their trophies. From Billie Eilish, Halsey to Shawn Mendes we have the update on the best hairstyles from the award show.

K-Pop Band BTS

Performing alongside stars like Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift, BTS as well as NCT 127 made history on Sunday night, being the first K-Pop bands to perform at the EMA awards.

The band won 3 awards, in the best group, best live and biggest fans categories.

“I adore BTS’ identikit eBoy hairstyles. The boyband might have won three awards for their music, but I think they deserve an accolade for their hairstyles too! The centre partings, the eye-skimming fringes, the shine – think I might be part of the BTS army…” says Charlotte Grant-West, content editor

The supermodel, who attended the MTV EMA awards on Sunday, is known for her fierceness on the Victoria Secret catwalk. She showed the same energy down the red carpet.

“This supermodel is such a hair chameleon I love seeing what vibe she’s going for next. This high ponytail is along the same lines as the retro hair flip ponytail we’ve seen making a comeback recently– perfect for party season!” says Akesha, digital editor

The British-Albanian star performed her newly released single ‘Don’t Start Now’ live on stage at the awards, the single is from her highly anticipated album called Sophomore.

“Dua Lipa sported a slick bun with a grungy dark root deliberately on show behind her ears and vibrant light blonde sitting on the top with a dark root on show. It is the perfect combination of glamorous chic meets rock chick cool and is definitely a style to suggest to your clients during the festive season.” says Laura, HJ editor
Joan Smalls

Darcie Harvey, advanced stylist from Brooks & Brooks, London says, “Joan Smalls gave us high shine, supermodel feels. Her outfit was satin and all about showing off her body, with the skirt having a slit, and a gap at the hip to flash us her athletic build. The hair emphasised this whole look – less was more as Rio Sreedharan gave us beautifully polished straightened hair and perfect side parting. All Joan Smalls needed was a minimalist look to show off her natural beauty.”

“Halsey’s look was very contrasting, as her ferocious copper curls were neatly pinned back into a low-ponytail giving her look an elegant element, but then her waves were let loose on top of her head giving her hairstyle volume and texture.” says Lydia Halsey, HJ editorial intern
Darcie comments, “Halsey was all about extravagance and making a statement – in a cool understated way. Martin Christopher Harper did a fantastic job of giving us cool girl texture – the effort that goes into “I haven’t made too much effort” was perfectly executed. Her clothes rippled off her with lots of movement and texture, having the hair mimic this was an excellent collaboration. This look is all about being tonged and quaffed with your fingers to visually make the perfect imperfections for this natural undone look.”
Niall Horan

Jim Shaw, owner of Esssensuals and EssensualsMEN says,  “Niall wore his hair with mega height and volume and this is a look that’s so popular with male client’s in the salon and is very on trend this season. This look is best to create on those who have quite a lot of hair that can be worked with, where the styling products can really enhance the hair and give it that statement, volumised look.”

Simon Hill, owner of SESH Hairdressing says, “Her hair looked super healthy as she wore it in a sleek side parting with a really soft and subtle wave through the ends of her long mane. To create this style, the condition of the hair is key. Treat the hair to a conditioning or moisturising mask before styling.

Top tip: make sure you rinse this out thoroughly so the hair doesn’t appear weighed down. Create the deep side parting prior to blow drying and use a paddle brush to create a really smooth finish to the hair. Once dry, use a curing wand to give the length of the hair a gentle bend. Tuck one side of the hair behind the ear and secure using a light weight paste or gel. Finish with a generous mist of hairspray to ensure little movement.”

Ross Charles, owner of Ross Charles Hairdressing says, “I think her style emulates what we can expect to see throughout the winter season as I predict the long bob with a little movement will be popular before we move into SS20. This look is super easy to create and I would recommend trying to create this with as little us of the straightening irons as possible to give the hair a more natural feel. Use a round barrel brush to help create volume at the roots and help give you that tucked under placement on the ends.”
