R&G Barbershop & Shaving Parlour: Interiors Inspiration

R&G Barbershop & Shaving Parlour is the brainchild of Gemma Davies and partner Rob and brings traditional barbershop cool to the streets of Crediton, Devon. When it opened in April 2013, the shop quickly had queues of guys going out the door - and they have remained busy ever since. Very much a traditional barbershop offering tight haircuts and close straight razor shaves, the salon looks the part too, with antique furniture, industrial fittings and exposed beams and brick walls. Sharing a premises with Good Luck tattoo parlour, it's a prime spot for gents with a love of all things old-school; and the building itself shares that heritage feel. "We were attracted to the character of the premises," says Gemma. "The ceiling beams on view, the size and the overall New York loft feel." [hji-gallery-legacy] Despite the rugged good looks of those bare walls and beams, it took five months of work to transform the space with lots of major work; think all-new electrics, flooring, plasterwork, water supply and air conditioning! With the major work done, it was time to dress the space and although the majority of fittings and fixtures were moved from the former shop, other pieces were sourced from antique shops and car boot sales - or donated by customers. An overall colour scheme of fawn, white and red brings the space together, with plenty of wood and industrial pieces - as well as the odd piece of taxidermy - adding to the mood. A carpenter created bespoke stations from long scaffold boards, with vintage-style lights over the mirrors and two baby Belfast sinks installed on the bar-style set-up. In front of each station sit REM Emperor Chairs, with hot towel machines at the ready for that true barbershop flavour.
