Syd hayes shares an insider's view on session styling at salon live The exciting world of session styling can seem intimidating, so Syd Hayes shared some of his behind the scenes secrets to remove the fear factor at the BaByliss PRO presents Session to Salon Salon Live show at Salon International. “I’m going to show you a few little tips about to help you create big hair, runway hair and show hair,” he told the audience. “These techniques are so simple and effective, but they can make an amazing hair story.” Kicking off with a street vibe, Syd created a fun, slightly-quirky braided look that he had finished with beads to spell out GCDS for a recent campaign, along with a voluminous afro. “My model doesn’t have a natural afro, but I really wanted to create this texture. To recreate it, use a rick rack technique by wrapping the hair round a large U-pin then closing your BaByliss PRO straightening irons around the hair to set the shape,” he explained. Power ponies are an editorial staple and Syd worked with extreme length and contrasting textures to make his stand out from the crowd for his second collection. “A ponytail is an art. It’s beautiful. For me, the key to this look is the hairline and making sure it is really neat,” revealed Syd. Colours that wow were the stars of the playful Pop Flouro presentation. Finger waves were gelled into place and finished with neon paint, while an oversized aggressive mohawk had #SYDSQUAD graffitied onto it with spray paint to show how simple it can be to transform a look. Next the focus was on Fashion Week and Syd presented looks that had recently been seen on the London catwalks. An ethereal witchy feeling was created by adding volume to long hair with extensions and creating marcel-esque waves using a BaByliss PRO Deep Waver. The beehive was given a modern twist by spraying it with coral spray paint; while a pretty rose buzz cut was reinvented by using a stencil to spray BaByliss PRO tags over the head in homage to the success of his recent work for Coach. For the final demonstration, Syd ventured into the world of avant garde and reinvented a look he had previously created for W Magazine. “It’s big. It’s bold. It’s out there. You wouldn’t want to walk down the street with it, but it looks incredible when you walk down the runway with it,” he joked as he teased an oversized box shape into place. Before finishing with a grand finale of all the presentation models and a brilliant display of break dancing, Syd had one essential piece of advice for the audience: “Sometimes hair works, sometimes it doesn’t. It doesn’t always go right for me, but you have to keep trying,” he concluded. Watch Syd Hayes Spill It Fashion Week Secrets with HJi below! [ytp_video source="3QQfCSRrP9c"]
