Last night HJ was invited to see the latest trends in action at Essential Looks 2018. Here’s everything that we saw… This year, Schwarzkopf Professional Essential Looks was held in Amsterdam, a European city renowned for it’s cool, urbanite sub-cultures. Essential Looks is an event, hosted by the professional brand each year that showcases the latest trends and innovations from product presentations to hair shows by some of the biggest names in the hairdressing industry. The night began with an intimate look at the latest launches. As smooth jazz played guest got a chance to get a closer look at the Mad about Curls and Waves range and a look at the campaign imagery from Dishevelled Nudes and Dusted Rouge. Then it was onto the main event which was kicked off by Lesley Jennison whose models sported a gradient of gorgeous nude-infused looks for the Igora Royal Takeover. For the collection Lesley and her assistants prepped the models the day before to lightened up their locks using blonde.me before styling. One model, Lesley confessed, had box dyed her hair black just three weeks before but she was still able to achieve a stunning finished look. Next up we had Tyler Johnston take the stage showcasing two different trends reimagined from SS18 catwalks. First up was a sea of amazing curls and curls with one look created on stage in front of us, showing that no matter what texture you started with you can always create stunning, bouncy trend-led curls with the right products. tyler johnston Essential Looks 2018 The model that Tyler styled on stage had her hair curled with a classic tong and then the Osis Styling range was used to work through the curls, create texture and achieve that “modern look,” said Tyler. In contrast the ‘real me’ trend, which came next, was about simple hair that wasn’t over worked. “It’s all about clean architectural lines” Tyler commented as he shaped and crafted a modern fringe on stage into a long dual-tone style. For 'Beyond BlondeME' Arjan Bevers crafted beautiful multi-tonal blonde looks. The hairdresser showed his immense colour skill with a variety of shades that made the various blonde looks far from boring with a modern twist. The social phenomenon Xpresions Creativos then hit the stage to show the audience why they are just so popular and loved by the industry. They gave everyone a look at how pixelated hair - the colour craze created by the trio - works on different lengths, colours and style. Essential Looks 2018 Xpresion They wrapped up their segment of the show with ‘imperfect beauty’ a hair collection with the message for everyone to “be disruptive”. The team from Toni & Guy, including HJ’s London Hairdresser of the Year 2017 Indira Schauwecker, Philipp Haug and Stuart Matuska, closed the show with two collections. Futurewise is their SS18 trend collection which harks at an eclectic mixed of vintage meets high street fashion, the 1970s and the latest Gucci campaign. And then an eerily stunning horde of models sporting avant garde looks made their way down the catwalk on stage.
