Jack Howard: The Man Turning Models Blonde This Season
Jack Howard has been appointed the official colourist to Next Model Management; home of some of the fashion industry’s biggest names and, this season, most memorable colour changes.
Already international colour director at Neville salons, Jack is a balayage expert who counts blonde bombshells including Poppy and Chloe Delevingne amongst his clients.
His new role at Next Model Management has already seen Jack transform model of the moment Ola Rudnicka, whose ice-white blonde has already been showcased on the catwalks at Jason Wu, Diane Von Furstenberg, Tommy Hilfiger, Edun and Prabal Gurung in New York.
He comments: “That perfect bleach blonde hair looks amazing against pale skin and this season blondes look lovely with a hint of iridescent pink which adds a very subtle shimmer that looks incredible under the lights. An all-over blonde like Ola’s is a high-maintenance look as you need to get the roots coloured every three to four weeks and protection is key for a shade like this; use Kerastase Architecture and Figment Thermique, as a blonde this light needs quality products.”
Top Brazilian model Ana Beatriz Barros also paid a visit to Jack ahead of fashion week for a dose of his trademark balayage.
He explains: “As Ana has an important cover shoot coming up I put in sun-kissed ends with some brighter shades around the face, which work really well for the camera as well as in real life. I added a few New York Lights around the face to add a little extra sparkle to her look too. I used a mix of L’Oreal Professionnel’s ammonia-free Platinium and Majimeche colours to get the contrast in this look.”
Model/actress Chloe Hayward has also been in the hot seat this week and tweeted afterwards: “After years of failed relationships, I think I just found ‘the ONE'”, adding that Jack was the ‘best colourist in London’.
Jack says: “Chloe’s hair is a gorgeous sun-kissed blonde; this strong shade photographs well, it’s soft but with boldness through it. The placement of shades is close together around the face to give strength at the front for a sexy look. For a shade like this I use L’Oreal Professionnel’s Majimeche as it’s gentle on super-long hair, helping to keep it in great condition.”
